Are there any base locations in ragnarok that are easy to defend & dont force you to use fliers only?
I play solo / with 1 more casual player so I need dinos for convenience to help me gather wood, metal, stone etc so having access to land (not being only acessible by flyers) is a must because getting a wyvern takes time.

Would also like it if it had enough space to contain contain a handful or large dinos

In viking bay there is a cave behind the waterfall near the southwest beach of the bay. Nothing spawns in this cave and although you do need to swim through the entrance to reach dry land inside, the swim is short and easily manageable. Nothing comes into the cave unless following you when aggroed. There is enough space to keep several decent sized dinos.

There cave in the swamp, carniverous caverns I think it's called super dark so bring some light.

Large Cave behind Waterfall roughly in the middle between Viking Bay and Volcano, 2 different sized Entrances on the same side, one reachable by land (with a small ramp), much room to build, watersource and some metal inside... not sure bout its PvP capabilities since i mostly play PvE

also reachable from the entrance in the mountain north of the swamp and from Viking Bay Underwater, so careful not to get outmaneuvered

Good place, my Wyvern Lair, big enought for 4 Wyvern, 2 Rex, 2 Reaper and a couple Thylacos...

How many entrances does it have? Seems like a great spot, how easy is it in terms of turret placement for protection

Also got coordS?

It doesn't need turrets to defend. Nothing spawns inside the cave and nothing will wander in. Something might chase you in, but as long as you don't bring anything with you, turrets are completely unnecessary in this cave. I don't have cordinates offhand, but behind waterfall just off southwest beach of viking bay is plenty good enough direction to get you there. Look up VB on a resource map if you must have cordinates. The only way in or out of the cave is through the waterfall. That's part of why it's so easy to find. Tehre is only one waterfall in the area of southwest viking bay.

I play PvP though so I'll definitely need turrets :)
If pvp, do not build in a cave. You will regret it. I like the canyons at 85,50. It can be hard to get to and set up, but once you have a working base, it's easy to defend. There are tons of resources there. Biggest problem is wood and thatch, because a flyer will make it a lot easier to get to them. However, metal, crystal, and salt is everywhere. There are 2 caves there as well, both filled with crystal, if you really want a cave (if unofficial, admins might not like you being in the big cave).

There is a river running through as well. Dinos can easily get in and out. Natural formations have a ramp going to the top of the canyons, and the river runs out into the ocean.

A base in the canyons is very well hidden from other players, so they'd have to be flying through the canyons or look very closely to see you. The rocks curve above you, so it is more concealed. In terms of wild dinos, sabertooths and terror birds are a small problem. When you block the narrow canyons with gates, you should be mostly fine. There is a lot of room for dinos, though the canyons are kind of narrow.

Pteras and argents are not nearby. Wyverns are sort of close. You'll want to bring a fast mount if you want to leave the area. Travel to Viking Bay for pteras, and go up the river to the east for argents (this is dangerous). With this base, bring as my h as you can in because once you're in, it will be difficult getting out without a bird.

Yea I understand ur point of view regarding not building in caves, the issue with building in elevated places is that while easy to defend is usually very limited either in space for dinos or has way too much space that i cant use it all by myself (which allows enemies to drop dinos in for tanking turrets)
Soza Jul 23, 2018 @ 1:44am
its a common cave but anyone who understand abit about ark can raid this cave very easy with a raft, raft mechanics is fun but too op almost vs any base near water / river, also consider any cave thats easy to defeand is also easy to block with a turret tower.

imo best cave in rag is at the hidden springs, u got 2 caves 1 near the other, u cant get in with wyvren or quetzl at the 1st cave, but now that the argy is able to pick up anky and both can enter that cave its great.
