Dung beatles starving to death

Aight so first I have a lot of dung beatles they can hold around 30-40 pieces of fecal matter a piece. Im constantly filling their inventory with feces and the process works everything is going good... except their hunger is still going down they do not eat they do not get fed from the feces.

End story they starve to death. This is becoming rediculous do they need access to a feeding trough with berries to actually eat and not die of starvation? Or is this some sort of bug with the new patch I did not have this issue before tek stego patch.

"After taming, keeping feces in the beetle will not be enough to keep its food up. Provide the beetle with meat through a feeding trough or directly in its inventory to keep it fed."
I recommend using a feeding trough so you can use its weight for poop though.
