Valentine's event is forced ?
Hi, it seems that Valentine's event is forced even if we don't want it ? I updated one of my mods and after that I just ran a Steam update in my control panel, like I always do, in order to check the integrity of files. The server version was updated to 278.3. No changelog here or in Ark forum, so I thought it was a server side minor update like we sometimes get. But I just saw an ugly pink iguanodon in my game, so I guess that this 278.3 update was in fact the Valentine's event ? I'm really disappointed because I thought that I could avoid this event.

- Server-side update for Valentine's Day event content (Randomly Colored Dinos & Chocolate Cake "eggs"), optionally run with -vday if you want to use the 3x Mating/Maturation boosts

Maybe I am being too technical but it seems that the pink dinos are mandatory and the boosted settings are optional

Are you on a hosted server?
Elgar Feb 14, 2018 @ 2:15am
Yes, I rent a server.

I didn't change my command line of course (so no vday setting), I just ran a Steam update like I usually do.

Your host turns it on. You could try a support ticket, but this is probably just done for all their servers.

If you want to be able to opt-out you need the command line (launch parameters) access. Most hosts don't give you this access, except through options in their user interface, which they aren't going to redesign just for an event.

My only experience is with Nitrado and G-portal, perhaps other hosts are different.

I have full access to the command line. And yes, my host (which is great by the way, it's LogicServers) also redesigned their user interface for the event. I just double checked and the Valentine's day setting is disabled.

Glad you found the option.

I knew the option was here, since my host told us about it. Since it's disabled, that's why I wonder why I saw this full pink iguanodon. ^^

Elgar..does logicservers automatically updates mods, warn players, then restart the server?

I only host for just a couple friends, so the cheap 10 slots servers have been fine. But I cannot update mods when I am sleeping. Just curious if you host did this automatically.

I could build a server, but I have crap internet (wireless to an extender, noticeable slow down during rain storms).

Yes, I can set up scheduled tasks in order to automatically update mods or the game, but I don't use them because I prefer to do it manually. I like to have full control. :)

My server is only 15 slots and, while I have a few friends who created characters, in practice I'm the only one who play. I could use the game's single player feature but I think multiplayer is more stable and bugfree, and I can craft metal ingots even if I'm disconnected. ;)

Finally, the changelog ! Thank you KitsuneShiro.

Ok, so I was right, Valentine's Day event is mandatory, at least for the pink dinos. It's a shame, because it ruins immersion and I couldn't care less about this event.

And WC could care less what it's player base wants or thinks. They have your money.
