Ark taking up Loads of storage

so here is my problem: ark first was arou nd 100 Gb and a while back it was 200GB on my Pc now its 400GB with the latest patch february 6,2018 i needed to download 8 gb just for this:
PC - 277.0
Released - February 6, 2018

Fixed a game vunreability which allowed players to exploit
Updated Ragnarok with various fixes and tweaks

and after that was finished i somehow needed to download a 23.8 gb afterwards i have these random huge updates often and now ark is taking up 400 GB of space which is just absolutely insane. anyone else having the same problem or is it just me or is it a bug? and do i need to reinstall?

400 gb.... That is far from the norm...

Have you done a clean install recently? (As in within the past 2 years)

Fresh install with only the island took 65gb before todays patch.

If your game has that size most often steam left backup files there after patching.

The game with all maps and some mods doesnt get to 150gb.

So no, its nowhere near 200 or 400gb

I haven’t heard of storage issues with ark in a long time. This definitely seems like an isolated issue to the OP.

I just combed the forums and didn’t see 10000 SIMILAR POSTS.

400gb? Are you sure you looked at the ARK Folder itself and not at what Windows says? My ARK Folder is currently sitting at 156GB which has all Official DLC and Maps as well as over 30 mods. If you unsubscribe mods, be sure to delete their files manually, Steam does not remove the Mod Files from the ARK Mod Folder.

I don't have a problem with the space, I have plenty and its only using 36gb, at least in the steam apps folder, could be more due to mods. But I think thats a fair point about a 8gb + 20gb patch just to fix a vulnerability and "various fixes and tweaks"

Got the same problem... about 450GB (yes I mean the Ark folder - without mods!) but I never reinstalled the game for 2 years. ^^
My girlfriends folder has about 250GB but she got the game a year later than me.

We'll see what the folder will look like after reinstalling. I think this is the only option for this problem.

It will look alot smaller. Keep in mind any and all mods you've installed and removed over those 2 years because they have probably added to the seek free content folder which may explain the huge size you folder has grown too.

I've always found it good practice to re-install ark after large updates, it's never failed to reduce the folder size considerably when doing so. My current folder is 98gb with 2 dlc's installed 6 mods (mostly maps) this is a few months old now, so I'll be re-installing again at some point.

There is a cache folder located somewhere in the Ark folder tree that can get pretty big after a while. clear that out.

thanks evryone i looked at my files and it was indeed 400 gb but i reinstalled and it became around 160 gb but thnx for the help!

Managed to figure it out just go on steam go into manage then browse local files and then delete all the mods and maps to cause you can reinstall em if needed
