Update stuck at 5.4gb (68%) for multiple people
It got stuck at that point, i validated game files, it started downloading again from 0 and now it's stuck again at 68%.
This is happening for other people aswell as I can see, is there any way to fix it?

Have enough free space?

Can you see disk working at steam downloads?

Maybe its unpacking files and your pc doesnt have space or capacity to do it faster.

Nah plenty of space left. Reinstalling ark, seems to work, at 90% now

Atm i got the exact same issue , cant update due to not enough space (update is 7.something gb and i got 30+gb left) RIDICULOUS

It's pre-caching the entire game size with the update, and then the space that takes will be given back once it's done. Sadly, you can't update if you don't clear some space. That said, I have this issue too. It's already 110 gigs in the folder..

could be worse. IM on a meterted internet connection. The 8gig update cashed, and now its 22gigs download. GG wildcard. when are they going to let people DL the patch BEFORE they get screwed over when it take forever to DL it.

Got stuck at 5.4gb as well, then deleted like 3 games and now I got to 100%. Too bad now I'm stuck at 100%... What the hell?? 228gb extra disk space should be enough to install a 6gb update....

Typically this happens with Steam servers with very large updates. You could try switching to a different download region to see if that helps (I normally try ones in Asia as they tend to be the least populated).

As a warning to new players: Clear out 150 - 200 gigs of disk space because that is how much ark may need on occasion. I know that sounds like i am being dishonest, but a patch over a few gigs often needs that much overhead to install. I had to delete ark and reinstall from scratch- the patch wouldnt stop increasing in size. It started as a 7 gig patch and continued to grow. I stopped the download and deleted everything when it had increased to a 30 gig patch with no signs of stopping. Wondered if anyone had this issue...

Frankly, I might have to stop playing ark due to the overhead. I have a 256 gig SSD and a 3 tera platter drive. It takes 5 or more minutes to load a server with mods on it (average being 3 - 5 mods) on the platter drive. The SSD is just short of 2 minutes. I know 5 minutes isn't a lot of time, but when you have been playing the game for hundreds of hours that 5 minutes ends up being hours of your time spent just waiting for the game to load. The 256 SSD isnt large enough to house both the windows operating system and ark (the only two things i have on it).

Unfortunately for all of us, an update always comes with the need to preallocate, and it does so with all the game files, it's like creating a backup copy of your game in case something goes wrong. Then deleting it when you're done updating. I think it's steam itself that does that, and not ARK in particular.

On another note, my friend that had the same problem as most of you guys ( stuck at 5.4 gb ) cleared their download cache and download started going again after a few minutes.

That's 5 minutes I use to take a leak, make a sammich, take a shower, watch youtube.... or any of the other things people do other than sit and stare at a loading screen. Nobody stares at load screens anymore =P

Like other says pre-allocation, this update took about 20 minutes for me with peak DL's of 40 MB/s it stopped at around 5.4 GB like others and a few more times after that when it stopped dling it was still writing roughly 100 MB/s to the disk when it was updating I looked as the SSD free space and it was at 147 GB after the update finished my free space went back up to 236GB so yeah it basically writes a whole other copy of ark to your drive then deletes it after the update is done.

Crazy right? And if you are that tight on space like other have said just uninstall and re-install with this update it's almost the same process.
