Best none rex tames for combat?
Im looking for some good combat tames but I don't really care for rexes or most of the large dinos for that matter.

I eventually plan on facing the bosses in single player. So far basilisks and wyverns seem to be the only viable options that aren't large dinos. Any suggestions?

Im playing on ragmarok with the cross abberation mod

Theri's, Spino's, and Allo's are nice.

These are very good. Megatheriums if you face insects a lot, if you have Cross Aberration - find Ravagers, use them like you would a Direwolf pack.

Another mount for land and sea: Baryonyx - I eat up Megalodons like candy, I can hold against 1-2 Plesiosaurs as well (minus the stun - it doesn't work on them).

If anything: 1000 level 150 Compy on Aggressive. XD

Daeodon and thylacoleo are pretty beasts too. But if you want some nice killing machines i think that the spino, the rex or the allos/yutyrannus are the best.

Bears also have good DPM

I am breeding Therizinosaurs into boss-fight mounts. Their damage output is on par with a rex, (actually higher), but they have less health than a rex. They are herbivores though, so they can eat sweet veggie cakes in a boss fight.

The side benefit is that they are by far still the best overall gather dino in the game. My Theri's are pretty boss from a good chunk of breeding, but i can gather meat faster on them than on a 150 perfect tame giga. With right click, I can gather like 45k fiber in about 30 minutes with them. Or use C attack to get similar output of hide from dinos that fall apart in their claws, or similar chitin output in bug infested areas. They gather organic polymer very well. And they can burden themselves with wood in just a couple trees (which actually kinda highlights that you should get a mammoth for that, cuz moving heavy resources is harder than gathering). If you do go with a theri, i strongly recommend 'delicate gather' as your best gather bonus level stat... but more ideally, get a couple, mate boosted, and level one in delicate, the other in power harvest... or make babies with them and use a male & female imprinted offspring for your mate boosted delicate/power combo.

That said, an Allosaur pack would be very fun. They handle extremely well and have cool animation and sound effects. And in a pack they are super vicious. Megalosaurus are interesting too. Thyla's are very cool. Dire Bear is a strong contender.

The Spino just got updated and is much more interesting now as well, and it makes a good amphibious mount as well, for breaking into ocean content/tames.

So the common consensus is get big dinos? Haha. I guess ill just try with bears, basilisks, titanoboas, and wyverns. The generic dinosaur aesthetic isn't really my bag but bears and wolves were some great suggestions!

Thylacoleo's(we call them Badger Cats), gryphons once you get their dive bomb attack down do massive damage.

Yeah listen here kid lvl 1 spino (tlc) vs lvl 1 rex (tlc) the spino kills it due to it being faster and more powerful

spino allo or giga. giga is hard 2 tame. sometimes ppl armor a bronto and put turrets on it. tat works ok.

You don't consider wyverns big dinos? Have ya put one next to a rex? :)

I like the new tlc Raptors with the pack buff. Get a good saddle on em and a pack can do some damage (for 45 seconds anyhow). ;)

Basilisks and Wyverns are both large tames imo..

My personal non large favorites are

Baryonyx.. Best cave exploration dino.
Sarco.. Best early game water mount and Alpha hunter. (my opinion)
Direwolf pack.. (4-5) Can overpower and absolutely obliterate most wild animals in seconds.
Raptor pack.. (5-6) Weaker than Direwolves but faster and easier to tame early on.
Thylacoleo.. One beast meat machine.. they can chew their way through most things and are fast enough to get away from things they can't.
