Wild dino egg farm?
Has anyone tried to drop a bunch of wild dinos in a fenced area for eggs?

I wanted a few stego eggs but I don't want to tame a bunch of them just to sit there taking space. So I dropped 6 female and 1 male into a cage but so far my 4 raptors layed 7 eggs while the stegos had none... I've seen eggs in the wild so we know wild dinos can lay eggs. My only explanation is that their rate is reduced so there aren't too many eggs in the wild.

Or i'm just unlucky or doing somethign wrong?

Also would a wild oviraptor help since wild ones are always on wonder anyway?

Your are supposed to use TAMED dinosaurs to egg farm... the only exception being the Titanoboa.

Egg buff only works with TAMED oviraptors.

I do not think wild dinos lay eggs as often as tamed dinos. Tamed dinos can get egg laying buffs from Mate boosting and tamed oviraptors making them far more likely to lay an egg then a wild dino which I do not believe get any of those buffs. Also keep in mind that wild dinos can poof or phase through walls because, well, poor game design.

It works but its like asking if a tricycle can be used to get you from NYC to DC. Sure it can but the time and effort put into it would just simply not be practical.

Their egg laying would be about on par with a tenth of what a proper tame made farm could produce in a same time frame.

Also depending on where/how you grab those wilds, they can and will eventually despawn thus you will have to get more(and thus taking more time.

I got about 10 dodo eggs an hour with a farm like that

Yeah, not to mention dodos lay eggs like crazy. Even just two tamed stegos will produce more than you could hope to get from a wild farm. It's a neat concept, but has no practicality in game.

wild dinos do lay eggs. different dinos different eggs laying rate.
Eggs Rate Rules:
1. Suitable Temperature
2. Males+Females boost
3. Oviraptor. Wild Oviraptor much better.

Bad thing about wild dinos, they will disappear or walk through building when you are not around in sight.

Yeah you will constantly lose dino's to despawning

Just gotta cross our fingers that the eventual kibble rework will make it less necessary to store dinos for eggs. The parking lots are a pain.

Out of curiosity, is there an ini file to increase the wild dino egg laying? Would make what OP wants a little more viable.

I dont mind the kibble farm requirement.... its the need for LARGE farms thats crazy.... problem is... if they made one egg craft more then 1 kibble... say 5 or 10.... it wouldnt solve the kibble farm dillema...official alphas would still have massive kibble farms.

True. I do believe that a solution to the problem could be reached though. For now, I just have egg laying intervals scaled down massively, with a rule of 1 egg dino per species. Works well enough for us as a bandaid fix.

There are also various mods that just use any egg generically to produce the specific kibbles needed.

I'm surprised no one mentioned despawning. To each their own, but honestly it's better to just tame them for eggs.

And true its annoying to have to go all Noah's ark for eggs, so we just stock up then thin the numbers.

I do really like one person's idea on a small/medium/large and/or difficulty tiered system.
