Thylacoleos come to mind immediately.

Wolves and sabers are fairly strong. However, mine have all been replaced now with baryonyx. Exceptional cave Dino's as that is what I primarily farm and they are stronger, with more defense and health than either a wolf or a saber. Not to mention they swim fairly well and have that stun attack when fully submerged that makes rivers a free most farming zone.

Wolfs Bears Thylos Deaodon Bary Spino next week they could stay in the water under your boat also Sarcos will be good and carno if they make it the meat eating bull also Ravangers if you can get your hands on one

Ever since TLC pass procoptodon has become one of the most versatile creatures in general. They can go through any island cave that isn’t underwater or inaccessible very easily, their aoe and knockback make up for their raptor-like damage and you can easily get an imprinted one to 160 damage/600% melee and 5k health before its max. They also harvest berries and thatch very well and their jump, speed, turning radius, and handling make it very good for traveling, I’ve used them instead of wyverns to move around.

Well, imo you named the solution in the OP: its the bear

Fast and agile. Good carry weight. Same damage potential as the Rex (with less HP tough). You can use tools/weapons while riding it (so you can tame basically any land animal safely)

high lvl raptors are a good noob tame...fast to tame, high speed, bad attack and weight but I have used them to run to my dead body to get my loot in a pinch..they are fast af if you tame a good one amd no big deal if it dies. They are small and you can easily fit one in a small base if you trying to keep your base "low key" and hidden for pvp.

I love wolves, but their lack of saddle armor makes me cross them off the list. Plus you really want a pack, sounds like space is limited. Bears are a very hardy dino and procoptodon or thylo are good at getting around.

Tek raptors, Lots of them

Baryonyx and Carnos are my favorite :)

Theriz would be my pick..but they really don't swim well ,if you forget to have it on passive while rafting around.. and its real hard to see where you are rafting to,with one on your poop deck

Whatever dino you pick,i would suggest a bunch of dimorphadons and vultures ,to protect your hms bounty..take no space and can be VeRY effective

For a raft base?

Baryonyx, super swimmer, deadly, fast. Covers transport to/from land and protection, meat gather, stun.

Beelzebufo, even better swimmer, plus jumping, fast, cement paste, kind squishy and weak tho.

Throw an argent or ptero on the roof too, or maybe a Pelagornis to stick with the water based dinos and they gather organic poly which u can use instead of normal poly which isn't easy to make on a boat unless u have a fab on there. Frog helps with poly if you do have a fab for cement paste.

If you build the raft right you should be able to fit a few dinos on there couple small ones on the base level and a flyer on the roof.

Pretty sure OP has figured this out in the > 2 years since he asked the question. Stop necro'ing.
