I was speaking more from a Game mechanic standpoint.
First of all, we don't know if Element Ore even gives off heat. After all, raw Element does not make you get heated when you carry it (neither raw nor processed, so who knows) and I haven't seen any lava yet (like I said, haven't gotten to the deeper levels due to travel being annoying). I also was aware there is raditation in the deeper levels, which doesn't really explain why there is heat all the way at the top of the Ark, Away from the radiation sources.
From a game mechanic standpoint, the Heat feels out of place for the general focus feel of the map.
The Island it was "explore, and beat the bosses". SE it was "Explore a bit, and try to survive the heat cycles from heat to cold". Abberation is "Try to cross extremely difficult terrain while surviving radiation, and taming/avoiding creatures that both provide and avoid/hate light". It feels like the heat thing was thrown in as an afterthought, it doesn't really feel like a full "Mechanic" of the map the way it was in SE.
Final point. The obelisks are barely functioning. Where they worked perfectly on the island and SE. Controlling all functions of the ark, including the temp. These obelisks are barely keeping the place lit up. Let alone regulating anything.
Your post does not address the POINT I brought up. The heat feels like it was thrown in as an afterthought, rather then the focus of the map. Making it not innovative, and not game changing. Making the fact that the heat in Abberation is an annoyance, with no new, innovative way to deal with it other then wasting inventory space with a map that is already frustrating and time consuming to move around on.
Once again, In SE, Heat and cold were an integral part of the design of the map. It felt like the map mechanics were built AROUND those two factors, heat and cold, and it worked Awesomely well together to create a challenging enviroment.
Abberation is built around Radiation, and Light/Charge. Heat felt like it was thrown in as an afterthought, and ends up being nothing but an annoyance.
Playing through SE for the first time, I was shocked by how much heat and cold were going to change my gameplay, and they did.
In Abberation, my only thought is, "Great, and because I'm overheating CONSTANTLY, I have to carry 20 sources of water on my physical person while I'm trying to Wing Suit around, in addition to carrying the materials to repair. Hope I don't find anything really cool to nab while I'm out, because now my Inventory space is gone." Sarcasm aside, Heat and Cold mechanics were an integral part of the map. Abberation makes the constant overheating an annoyance at best, especially as Abberation gives no you real way to DEAL with this, unlike SE.
Also, if you haven't been top side yet, make sure to only go at night and well equipt. Going there during the day is death pretty quick, the whole surface is on fire during day time.
It is not at all, it just just you who came up there with this nonsense , aberration heat is far far away from being the se heat, get yourself to play few hours on it and you will probably delete this stupid thread
Also make sure and read the explorer notes to find out what happened to Aberration and why it is the way it is.
pop your head out on surface when its daytime and youl see whyanything below surface is hot
Kinda sad when ONE post is the only actual helpful post listed so far. Namely yours. I'm fully aware what the surface is like. During day its a death trap, and during night isn't much better, either have to have light to fend off the Alien creatures, or no light to avoid the Seekers. I also didn't know the Rad suit worked against heat. Since it has limited durability, I only ever put it on RIGHT before I tried to venture onto the surface or into "the depths", so I didn't think to check the heat while wearing it, was caught up working on other things.
Graviphoton. I was actually unaware you COULD spawn at the lake for the longest time, until doing some research later on, I thought you NEEDED to spawn near the green area and head to the river as soon as possible, which of course lead to lots and lots of death -.- I actually had to turn on infinitestats just to explore the map and see what it was like because I kept dying and wanted to see if there was a better spawn point then the "easiest" options.
Class100. Jee, only a few hours on it? its almost like I don't have a survivor that's level...what, 80 now, with the experience multiplier set to .5. I've put MORE then "a few hours", into Abberation, and I ain't making up ♥♥♥♥. 30 Fortitude and naked I'm still overheating. Oh and I love how you completely avoided the ACTUAL points I made, kudos on that. Maybe, Just maybe, if you would pull your head out of your ass, and realize that not Everyone has 2k+ hours invested in Ark, that perhaps, the game is not as easy for other people as it is for your masterful self, it may just click that there are opinions other then yours. I found the heat in Abberation annoying. Nothing else. It wasn't a threat, it didn't contribute to my experience. It was an annoyance. And hey, I'm not the only one who was annoyed at the fact that the "easiest" spawn locations were death traps to new players. Don't believe me? Take a look online for comments.
Wraith. I'm aware, I've seen the surface. I'm also aware that space itself is as close to Absolute Zero as you can get in nature. I really don't want to start digging into the scientific reasonings, such as "Why does the underground have oxygen and a thriving biosphere, when clearly there is a ♥♥♥♥ ton of radiation pouring down into the surface. Judging from the amount of heat POURING down during day, clearly Abberation is far closer to a stellar body then is safe. I'd also point out that with the amount of heat pouring down, I find it hard to believe, even with advanced alien technology, that life would be able to survive considering how much rock seperates the surface from the caves (ie not much). For that matter, why isn't the surface molten rock? Why does the underground have oxygen without some sort of barrier or force field to keep it in, when you clearly do not pass one to get to the surface, there's just a hole? (well several holes). Where does the light come from in the green areas, because we Know what kind of light the aliens use, and that soft green isn't it. That almost looks like bioluminescence, which begs even more questions. That's why I didn't instantly jump to the conclusion that "Jee, it must be hot because the surface is hot". Abberation isn't exactly following "real" science. Nor do I expect it too, considering its a game about taming mutated dino's in an attempt to beat some super alien civ's death games/science project.
I also think its hilarious that out of most of the people who had 2k+ hours in the game, ONE of them posted actual helpful advice, and explained WHY it was helpful advice, and the other...4 commenters, or 5 were basically "git gud" or "ur opinion suks"
BTW I remember Rockwell saying Element is warm
