The gate itself is about 5 foundations wide.
Going off your example.. Whiterun that was more a long building section than anything so if I was looking to build something like that I'd guess something like 10 foundations wide and about 30-40ish long if you want a couple of Wyverns lined up inside like that.
There probably wouldn't be that much room for them to walk around though.. but on the plus side you could build it tall and have platforms built onto the walls.
So long as the ground is covered in pillars or foundations you won't have to worry about any supports.. a good tip to know if you want to build big bridges in ARK without having to pillar all the way down every 2 blocks.
That's how I was able to leave a big hole in the middle of this wall and make the bridge tunnel above it without it falling down. (No mods)
Much of the wall and gate on the bottom left there are only there to stop wild things roaming in.. they're not actually needed to support the bridge above.

thanks for your sygestion i plan on making it big enoughe so i can fly the wyverns in and out to also i would not be directly the size of the actual whiterun keep lol just similar but thanks.
