Legacy Servers
Say there be a day when the last Legacy Server great migration comes, maybe the fourth or fifth migration. Many Legacy Servers will be trimmed off the list, and only a few will remain forever.

With so few Legacy Servers left, and no new ones coming, is slowly expected that the tame cap will eventually be reached, the server will stagnate, and the legacy community will die off.

Wildcard is slowly killing Legacy servers, but a legacy server's map and contents are no different to a non-Legacy server. The difference is only the name, and for some reason, Wildcard believes a server given the name 'Legacy' deserves less respect - for no depthful explanation. You might believe their explanation is to delete long-dead servers, but this doesn't explain why servers with +15 players daily were picked to be named as Legacy.

Apart from rumors of hackers, I haven't came across any other complete reason.

Many players do not want to leave their legacy servers as they own tames that are many months old - some even years, and do not want to leave their big gameplay work behind.

I play both non-legacy and legacy servers, but I worry about the legacy side of gameplay more than official because it happens to be a massive issue. Limited server space will not satisfy players and many veteran ARK players are upset to forcefully leave their first developed home.

What can we expect? Will legacy change or stay? As of now, it feels quite hollow playing Legacy, and I'd much prefer non-legacy gameplay, but I don't want to leave my Legacy work behind too. It's not as fun having two seperate-made accounts to handle one on non-legacy and one for legacy.

:gravestone:

P.S. The Trike is half Styracosaurus. WHY DO WE NEED A STYRACOSAURUS.
(I might make another post about that. Hmm...)

(and yes I do play non-legacy official pvp so this isn't actually the end of the world for me. Just a personal community statement)

Legacy servers run on old netcode of some sort that is exploited by dupers and hackers. They stated some time before release that all (at that time) current servers will be marked as legacy and servers that are under populated will be converted to new servers with updated protections against hackers and dupers. I don't remember all the details, hopefully someone can clear what is missing/wrong, but that's the gist of it.

What if there was ever a way to refresh the netcode to make it updated or moving dinos to a newer netcode.. or will that never logically work?

Oh look, another obvious and inevitable rehashing that is just beating a dead horse yet again. This axe has been ground down to the handle at this point.

Remember, when a legacy is retired shockal that the server is then downloadable and applicable to a server you create or similar. Nothing is technically lost except the few remnants of people who may still have been playing on formerly retired servers.

But all that is also really relative. You fret over leaving your work behind. First, realize you're calling it work. And second realize 30,000+ servers out there and single playere where you can make it a non issue in a matter of hours or days.

Again, this really is much ado about nothing. Next time I suggest going after where Jeremy got the idea for engrams or the like. :P
