Anyone play this on an MSI laptop?
So, my Mac was getting old and I needed to buy a laptop, and since I've wanted to play Ark forever I decided to get a PC. Then I find out that this game is apparently horribly optimized and pretty much any laptop that will be great for gaming will still be TORN TO SHREDS by this.

So, does anyone play Ark on a laptop and have a good recommendation? I've heard MSI is a good brand but would like to hear from people who have actually played. I'm hoping to stay $2000 or cheaper (cheaper is good), and I'm fine with medium settings and 30FPS.

And yeah, I know people will say I should get a desktop... but I travel a lot and so am only looking to buy a laptop. So I will love you for any recommendations you can make

TLDR, need a new laptop, wanting to play Ark on it, any recommendations for one I can play it on that won't implode from the heat would be greatly appreciated.

Read this article about the demands of ark on rigs and plan accordingly then:

For that sort of budget there is lots out there to suit your needs. I bought a used pc specialist custom laptop with i7, 16gb ddr4, gtx 880m 8gb, ssd and hdd for £500. Runs quite happily at 30+ fps with medium an little bit of high settings.
I run on an Asus G751jy. It's similar to what you'd be looking at with MSI. Runs the game great.

i7, GTX 980m, 24gigs RAM, M.2 SSD.

I sometimes play it on an Asus Predator laptop. But it has an i7 and a 1080 in it. I upgraded it from the base 16g to 32g of ram. A bit expensive... around $2000 (USD).

Good to know! Would you guys recommend Asus over MSI then, or do you think it really matters?

They are both good brands. I like Asus, because I've been using ROG for years. No real reason.

My gf has a 1.5k CDN$ MSI Apache Pro, i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB RAM, 1050ti 4GB VRAM and 256GB SSD / 2TB HDD laptop and runs ARK on a High / Medium mix of settings and gets 30+ FPS pretty consistently, even in our heavily modded (S+ and CKF) Castle / Keep base, with over 200+ tames on Ragnarok.

So... the MSI laptops can surely handle ARK just fine, you simply need to know that anything under an i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and older than a 10xx GPU might have issues, although [...]*EDIT*
As per a concerned technical guru far more knowledgeable than I - the fact that I misleadingly included the word "might" and the following "handle a med / high mixture of settings" where Medium would be the main attribute in all your settings, whereas High might be for textures alone and, despite "might" being a very subjective and not a "IT WILL DO IT" kind of word - not to mention I did not say it'd perform at 30+ FPS either... I just said "might handle" - well, that was just a load of BS and I deeply apologize for any wrongdoings on my part. *END OF EDIT* [...]older 970-980 GPU versions for laptop might handle a med / high mixture of settings.

There, it's "fixed".

I mean, I handle a mixture of "High textures" and "Medium Post Processing and AA" while the rest is on Low - and some ticked options are off... on a 765m - I still get 30 FPS in my base... no, wait, I lied... I get 10 when it's loading, 24-31 while in its general area - once loaded.

Again - I apologize for the obvious BS.

Thanks LBDB - you're a lifesaver.

I understand enough, but thanks for your concern.

Oh, I'm not concerned. Just want you and the community to be aware that your info is complete BS. In fact, the entire second half of your post was nothing but misinformation. Just sayin'.

Let's just get it locked in for safe keeping.

Well, sorry then... let me correct it.

No need. I totally assume the BS that spews out of my mouth... err, fingers. I might be in Peasant town with my non-4K dingeroos Desktop / Laptop, but one thing I have - is integrity and honesty... wait, what kind of BS did I just pull (if you wonder, BS stands for Britney Spears...). Oops, I did it again, I lied - I have 2 things, integrity and honesty.

Anyways - childish shenanigans and forum trolling apart... I never keep a grudge - it's futile and serves little purpose.

Opinions differ, views as well. You have yours, I have mine - we're all happy gamers.

Alright, you win.

Until next time, random nice person...

However you go.... get a cooling pad.
The performance gap between the latest laptop/desktop gpu's might be shrinking on paper... but heat is still a big issue in laptops.
