everyone's always talking about the loud menu music...
but why in the hell does the main menu make my GPU fan run crazy fast? I was actually having spontaneous reboots before I modified the fan control curve. I think maybe you need to tone it down just a bit Wildcard.

maybe its not Wildcard, but how your PC is set up.....

Doesnt pertain to your problem now does it. you said yourself that you had to go in and adjust the fan.

In menu screen I get about 250fps so naturally my gpu ramps up.
Then again I have vsync off as I found it not that greatly implemented with ark, how ever turning it on or even setting it to on via your gpu control panel for ark would cap it at your refresh rate and stop your gpu working harder than it needs to in the menu screen.

hit Tab and enter:

t.maxfps 30(or whatever you want your FPS to be at.)

Will greatly reduce the work load of your GPU

maybe, but it's interesting how many other games I play with intense graphics that this doesn't happen in.

Yup blame ARK then...

follow all the others that do that instead of listing their PC specs. You solved it. Might as well mark as answered then

Like g0rm said.... the menu pumps up your fps by a crap load.... making your gpu ramp up.

Whats your fps in the menu.
