So, official beginner servers. Thoughts?
Tomorrow, May 8th at approximately 10 am PST we will be launching a new set of servers called Beginner servers! Beginner Official Servers are an experience for new ARK players to test the waters without the threat of thoroughly developed tribes.

Unlike our regular servers, these have undergone some changes. First of all, there have been some limitations on how much a player or dino can progress. Player levels hit their cap at 44 and the highest encounter possible for wild creatures is level 30. Tamed creatures can receive up to an additional maximum of 30 levels. Due to the progression limits, some engrams are not achievable through levelling up but are found via supply crates. Some other changes include the disabling of alliances and tribe sizes have been limited to 5 members maximum.

Once established on a beginner server survivors can choose to exit into the rest of the official server network by uploading their character and moving to another server for the full ARK experience. Downloads of any kind are permanently disabled on Beginner servers so once you upload your character and leave the server you can't come back.

Should hopefully give beginners a chance to get a footing more easily without massive alpha tribes wiping them. Although I'd imagine it'll still be a haven for noob raiders and petty PvP'ers who just want to grief and troll people. Nice to see that they're finally thinking of ways for the newer and/or smaller tribes to be able to learn and enjoy the game while still being in a multiplayer environment.

There will probably be those who want to be the big fish in little pond.

5 man tribes with experienced players will always have the upper hand.

Some veterans will probably see it as a challenge to dominate a server with only a 5 man tribe with limited levels and engrams.

Wont be completely OP, but will be interesting to see how it works out over time.

Depending on how many engrams are available through drops, this would look more like a Primitive server no?

I think it could be very primitive, but it depends on if WC properly changes the accessable beacon drops.

Yeah for sure. Always going to be that insecure loser IRL that needs to feel big and strong in a computer game prowling a game mode like that.

I think WC are missing 3 server modes that would be better than what has been offered here;

1. No tribes or alliances
2. x3 or x5 servers - not that I care but to appease the "Where's the x2 event" crowd
3. Trial servers, like MMO's, can only play the server if you dont own the game. Only get to level 20 with limited engrams and dino taming options, simply to hook curious players.

Kinda. Longnecks and shotguns will still be available to craft, but metal parts (assuming they won't rework the engram system to include them) won't be craftable along with C4.

Turns out there's ORP on the beginners servers and all things with access tables are locked automatically (mortar and pestle, boxes, etc etc). Don't think they intended this to be a server where tribes could 'dominate'. Oh well.
