Need Help Reclaiming a Character in Single Player
The scenario: Months ago, I clicked "Create New Character" on the respawn select screen. I am unsure at this time if I had died right before I did that.

I got pissed that I did so, attempted to get the new toon to my old base to effect using admin commands to 'give' the old base to my new toon. I lost interest in it as I respawned so far away, got irritiated and stopped playing the game for a period of several months. Abberration sucked me back into game within the last 6 weeks or so. Played on that map and started using S+. Decided to rework my Island base with S+. Log back into the Island map after months away and realize where I left off. Get back to base, admin command "Giveallstructure" and "Givetome" so all structures and dinos now belong to new toon.

Ran toon up ~80 and am tooling around redwood forest looking for a place to play with Platforms+ when I see a platform in one of trees. "Huh, I must have dropped one there with the old toon."

Land on the platform, see an Argent who is red to me and think "Hmm how did you get all the way out here." Look immediatlely past the Argent and I see my old body asleep on the ground. All armored and everything.

That's when I said "Well, ♥♥♥♥."

So, that chapter of a book aside, how can I go about having that body be the one I "pop" back into when I start my single player game? I've searched for this, but I haven't had any succuss in finding other player who have had this happen, much less a solution.

Hi Brawling

First the bad news:
I'm afraid you won't be able to reclaim that character, unless you have a backup of his LocalPlayer.arkprofile. This is the file that was overwritten when you chose 'create new survivor'. The sleeping character is in your .ark save file.

If you have played a lot with your new character, restoring LocalPlayer.profilebak is no option because it will be your new character as well.

Now the good news:
You can get your old characters gear back if you disable 'pve mode' in your single player options. (Host/local, tab General, scroll down to the checkboxes, tick off 'pve mode')
This allows you to access his inventory.

Best of luck,
Carthien

Uh yep, sadly this is the case.

The sleeping char you see is likely simply a save of an unconcious body as an item on the map world and does not mean your actual character still exists somehow. (the body is saved but the soul is damned)

Sorry

PS: try using copy/paste once in a while to make backups, they can really come in handy later.

Here is a screenshot of my save folder. Keep in mind that I installed under my A drive which is the letter I assigned to my storage drive (I don't trust Ark's massive updates to be gentle with my SSD, but probably should since it is not that bad)

Ah... I just recently (last night as of this message) had a similar thing happen. I was in the middle of making a bridge when we lost power for a split second. Load up game, load up the Island where I'm playing... and I'm greeted to the Make a character window.

I was a bit confused by this, at first I thought I had lost all my data structures and what not. Not a huge deal seeing as I don't have much. But what was disheartening was the fact that my character was around lvl 60 with all kinds of engrams learned.

I finally make it over to my base with this new generic character to find yes it's still there and I'm like huh? what happened? Why did the game force me to make a new character? Walking around I soon realize I have no ownership of the three pets I have and there she is... my character asleep on the ground where I was gathering supplies.

Tried to exit and re-enter the game a few times only to log in as the new character with my old character asleep at my feet.

Seeing this post is a little more annoying that there is no real fix to this issue. Mostly because my former character was my first successful attempt at making a character look good with the base game sliders.... instead of just changing hair/eye/skin color.
