Whether you play the dlc's or not, assets from the dlc's are available to be used and seen on any server and single player. For all intents and purposes it means those dinos items assets are apart of the core game.
The dlc's beyond that are just simply the maps themselves. So while you can avoid the maps by not downloading the dlc's you cannot avoid the last years worth of things added to the game for which you still have to render and play with in some shape form or manner. This is why the game file size is larger and will continue to grow in size as the game continues to be in active and progressive development.
So either you have to figure out how to upgrade/change your comp to handle the increased and future increases to the game size or you will just have to shelve the game until you're able to.
Right-click Ark in your Steam library -> Properties -> DLC tab -> uncheck the DLCs you don't want anymore.
Problem solved. ;)
EDIT : just to explain more, retsam is right when he writes that some assets from the DLCs are included in the main game, and you can't change that. But if you uncheck the DLCs like I explain above, the size of your Ark's installation will be nevertheless smaller.
EDIT 2 : Don't forget to verify your files after changing DLCs selection.
Right-click Ark -> Properties -> Local files -> Verify integrity of game files
the DLC map files themselves are only a few gigs. maybe 5-6gigs top for both of them.
You're wrong.
I just made the test on my PC :
- Ark with all the DLCs activated : 130 GB
- Ark with no DLC activated : 66 GB.
It makes quite a difference.
Differences are relative though. That's primarily the point I was getting at.
As an arbitrary example, if the user has only a 70gb hdd, then they're still going to have issues with playing due to how updates are done and the future expectations of content to be added in the future.... not to mention lack of space for anything else.
Nope, wrong too. You can uncheck DLCs in game's properties before installing the game.
Yes. The game requirements says that I'll need 60gb for the core game.
I do have around 150gb of free memory, but I'd like to keep some free space to avoid a slow machine.
Change of subject, I haven't been following the game's development lately. Any progress in terms of otimization, or future otimization? Or the developers will still bombard the game with new stuff and leave the game for "Nasa machines"?
thanks again
my friend s download is half the size and i dont understand why
This thread is one year old and is outdated. Now the base game size without any DLC is around 100 GB.
Download size: 26.8 GB
Installed: 101 GB
I tried to do this but when I got to my properties tabs, there was no DLC tab :( What should i do?
