I also have a 1080ti in my rig, and even at 1080p at epic settings I have dips below 60fps.
You could try turning down shadows, they are a huge FPS killer. That, AntiAliasing, and Resolution Scale. Have a muck about with some settings... You can make the game run much smoother without really sacrificing any detail.
Hey BritishEcho, cheers for the response. I'm now sat at 60+ FPS when I change from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080... New problem is, I now have a bloody great big black border around a small game window on my monitor.
Apparently I need to adjust GPU settings in NVIDIA. Searched through every tab and not seen.
I'll adjust back to previous resolution and try turning off what you have suggested.
Yeah you should be able to run 4k, just with some things turned down. You could turn off AA altogether since at that resolution you would not see a difference anyway...
Check your monitor's OSD for a setting that controls it's scaling modes.
It's probably something like is shown here, on page EN-16 of this manual: https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/B11cXu6EjWS.pdf
The option you're looking for is this one:
There are three setting usually.
FULL - The GPU's output image is stretched to fit both Horizontally and Vertically. There will never be any black bars, but the image may appear distorted in one or both axes.
ASPECT - The GPU's output image is stretched to fit (if needed) specific aspect ratios. May result in black bars on the sides or top and bottom depending on what size the output image being displayed is.
1:1 - The raw pixels of the GPU's output image are displayed at a 1:1 ratio. When using a resolution that is smaller than the monitor's maximum, the image will appear in the center with a black frame around it. (It sounds like this is what you've got it on currently)
Either FULL or ASPECT should resolve your issue and make the image use the full monitor for 1080p, 1440p or 2160p. Additionally, FULL will let you use Ultra Wide 21:9 ratio resolutions (2560x1080 or 3840x1440) without black bars on the top and bottom. That is, if your monitor supports 21:9 resolutions to begin with.
Thanks for the info Ancient.
It is 21:9 as I bought the Xbox One X for 4k gaming...problem was the bloody console runs ar 16:9 so just plays at 1080p...lol
Literally no way around it. Monitor is too good for the console -_-
The link you gave to the monitor says it's a 4k/2k monitor...
3840x2160 is 16:9 aspect ratio. Should work fine for what you're trying to do.
All well and good but out of just morbid curiosity go to Steam's Help menu and click the "System Information" and then copy paste all it lists here.
The reason for this is that that is what ---Steam--- detects you are using for playing and there can be discrepancies as well as other information that has relevance.
I swallowed the bullet and reduced a few things.
Keep plugging away until extinction folks!
