Connection lost/timedout when attempting to connect to modded server
i am having issues connexting to an unofficial modded server.
its Grumpys Crystal Isles Extinction Clone (something like that)
i have all of the mods installed and functioning just fine (im using them in singleplayer)
i have tried:
1. complete reinstallation of the game and mods
2. disabling all firewalls
3. multiple attempts to join
4. disabling DLC
5. custom launch options
6. lowering my graphics
7. i tested both the map and the mods together and they work just fine
i can join official servers no problem, just nothing modded
ive spent hours googling and i can find nothing i havent already tried, decided to look here for help... again, so please halp

Have you looked on Battlemetrics website to make sure that said server is actually up and running correctly and responding to queries? Often when lost connection/timed out is happening, its because the server crashed/is down.

some times a "Connection lost/timed out" is because a mod is too big to load all at once. Just keep trying until the mod pushed thru and gets loaded.

Primal Fear does that to us all the time. just takes a few tries to get it all to load.

I have friends who play on it all the time, and were on when i made most of my attempts

It gets through all of the mod and world loading, but it kicks me right before it would go to the survivor create screen

Then I'll need you to provide more accurate, detailed information then to start to suss out what may be going on if other players are accessing the server but you are not:

1. Go to the steam help menu, click system information, and paste -all- that information here. The reason why is it is more detailed and it is what --Steam-- is detecting for your playing for ark. There are frequently differences or details that get left out when players just say "I got xyz" that can have relevance thus.

2. Go into your in game options menu for comp settings. F12 or similar screen shot it and link the screen shot here. Just like with 1, the details and accuracy of that information is more helpful than just saying "x settings".

3. List by name -all- mods being used on this server.

4. Go to battlemetrics website and locate the server you're trying to play on and link its statistics page in a link here.

5. List -all- 3rd party programs running in the background. This should include any fps meters, hardware monitors, graphic enhancers, virus checkers, and more.

Issue #1

Min reqs to play Ark:

OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400/AMD FX-8320 or better
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 670 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or better
DirectX: Version 10
Storage: 60 GB available space

But....

You are using a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 with only 1gb Vram.

Your graphics card is below the min reqs to play. This is your primary issue.

Issue #2

Due to Issue #1 your playing on settings that your comp cant handle for the game. Even if you had the bare min 670 card with 2gb vram versus your older card with 1gb vram, the settings you currently list to play in game are way above what even that card is meant to handle.

Issue #3

Your gpu driver is over 6 months out of date and has had many updates since then for gtx cards... though that really matters little given your comps overall inability to play the game as intended.

Issue #4

More than a few of the mods you've listed are abandoned, broken and prone to issues. But worse given that you're playing on a comp that isnt meant to play the game, many of those mods thus compound the demand on the rig, in conjunction with the too high settings, and just muck things up even worse.

So all in all, you've a mess on your hands with no viable solution except that you pretty much need to get a new computer if you want to play the game with any meaningful graphic fidelity, performance, and with minimal risk to issues otherwise.

Ark is one of the most demanding games on rigs out at the moment as even pcgamer cited in an article last fall. One should never buy a game if they're under, just at or even just only slightly above the min reqs to play. You're issues simply looking for a place to happen.

Sorry but that's just the reality of the situation.

but i can play the game itself just fine on those settings in Single player, on the map with the mods, no lag except the occasional spikes, and i can load into the official servers just fine, again with no issue, its only when i try to log into those servers that i get the issue, i know i can run the game, regardless of the specs... somehow

Then no point to continue the discussion really is there. I mean you're playing on inferior equipment with outdated drivers etc but you feel the problem isnt you then Im not exactly sure what magical solution you expect to be presented to you. *shrug*

by Grumpy's, do you mean you play this mod ?

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1332758863&searchtext=grumpy

cause according to comments on that mod page , it's a problem everyone seems to encounter, so a mod issue.

also i wonder if you can mix it with another map like crystal isle...
