How did I die?

This one really baffles me. I was on a ragnarok map, climbing a cliff with picks to get height for a glide back to base. Base is not far away. Had just finished seeing a friends prospective farming spot. As I come to the top of the cliff I see my blue marker so I hop up. Character insta-death before feet touch ground. No explanation in death message or tribe log (just that I died).

There are no turrets around there. No other bases. It had been cold and dawn had just broken. But I had made a fire and had a torch on at the base of the cliff. I only started my climb after fully recovered from the cold. I was even checking temp with H key periodically to make sure it was safe to be away from the fire. I had just filled food and water bars before starting the climb. Pick was still half durability near the top of cliff.

It's almost like the game just said "You've gone to long without a death. Here ya go, gratis."

Happens when you reach the ceiling of the map

On ragnarok or all maps? Because everytime I tame a ptera I take it to ceiling back and have never died. Also this is wayyyyy lower than the ceiling.

Clarifying I should say that I was above the level of that specific cliff earlier getting metal. There's a river not far from it and the wild dinos at that height are all still well within draw distance.

No as I said I had just filled food and water bars. The cliff wasn't so tall that I'd have ran out. Heck I hadn't even stamed out on it climbing to the height I did before I died. This is the thing I can't explain the death. That really bothers me to.

I don't mind dying as long as I can figure on why I died and what I can do differently next time to avoid dying in the same manner (often such lessons take several repetitons to really learn). I didn't loose any gear that I wasn't able to get back within a few minutes after dying (have spares for most of my load out) after dying. But it was just so sudden and weird and as far as I can tell there is no good explanation for it.

I'm hoping someone knows about this. That there's been a topic on it somewhere (didn't turn anything similar enough in searching). If this is a game mechanic I don't know about. really seems like something I should try and find out. If this is a bug maybe there is a way to avoid it? What really bugs me here is I don't know how I messed up, so I can't know how to adapt.

Okay my night just got even weirder. I went to go to another map to go to my favorite taming spot. When I spawned in all my non hot bar items were double in my inventory (overburdening me). Even my attire. It was doubled in my inventory. So I figure ok I'll just drop the junk weighing me down. I drop some of the duplicate outfit pieces and they come off my character even though they are already equipped (they seem tied directly to the inventory pieces?)

So I had to pick them back up. Eventually through various dropping picking and weilding and stack splitting I was able to move again and had my original inventory....WTF is going on tonight?

Now I can't leave the server I'm on for my home server. Any time I try it makes me drop seemingly 3 random items (that are not on cool down) and won't exit server selection menu. That's through beam or obe. I click join with survivor and nothing happens. The only way I can get out of the menu is to force exit... It's like this game is falling apart at the seams for me.

And I died to 130 troodon in the middle of the day while trying to beam out...Okay so I'm at the point where I'm just going to rage quit for a while. This game has been so irredeemably broken tonight that I've lost all my recent progress and am stuck on sever I don't want to be on.

Can you provide a link to the server you are playing on from the Battlemetrics website so we can see the stats of that server?

Can you also tell us if mods are being used on that server and if so list all mods for us.?

If you press H do you see any status affects listed affecting you?

I'm not currently logged in to press H. Because right now I may well put my fist through my monitor if I have to look at that game for one more second.

My problems began on my home server and carried over (getting far worse) on this server.

wtf guys, are you that uneducated about glitches? Random assumptions when the obvious answer is a glitch that always happens when you use climbing picks. It just happens. Sometimes you will randomly tp somewhere when climbing. While you can exploit it, it will often tp you out of bound. On a side note, don't use picks on handmade structures. The glitch happens more easily on these.

So basically, you got the unlucky glitch that teleports you randomly in the map based on where you are when climbing, and you were somewhere that teleported you out of bound (instadeath basically)

You don't have to be a dork about it, Nevaia. I haven't used the picks in close to two years, so I didn't know about that glitch.

Being that he's also on a pvp server, there are all manner of other possibilities too.

You know I'd like to make a game. I think I'd title it 'Naked on a Beach'. Because you start the game naked on a beach. While there is a lot of things to do. It doesn't matter. You will invariably end up naked on a beach again as if none of it ever happened. It's something of a waking nightmare concept. I don't know...Maybe someone could flesh this out a bit more.

But I bet I could get people to pay me money for it. Heck I bet I could get people to pay me money before I even start making it. All it needs is a theme. I'm even thinking it could work with several dozen iterations using different themes. All I really need to do is learn how to barely function in unity right? Guys... seriously... This could be big.
