The Island - Dragon Boss Fight
Hey guys, my tribe and I have been attempting to kill the dragon boss for the first time ever and we're not doing very well and was wondering if someone might point out what we're doing wrong.

We're using 18 Rexes with roughly 24k HP, 500% melee and Mastercraft Saddles with 70 armor. Also 1 Yuty with 25k HP and 1 Daedon with 55k food and about 15k HP and we've been completely wrecked twice now on the gamma dragon.

What we've been doing is shooting the dragon with assault rifles and shotguns until it lands and then rushing it with the Rexes. Everything goes well until we're chomping on it. The fire breath of the dragon just melts the Rexes before we can even get it to half health. The closest we've come to killing it was getting it to about 30% health.

We've watched tons of YouTube videos on it and most of them seem to employ the same tactics that we are doing but they seem to be able to withstand the fire breath somehow.

We've now bread much better rexes with over 30k health and pushing 600% melee but I'm hesitant to try again considering how fast things go south in there. Are there any tips you can provide for beating this thing? If gamma is this hard I can't imagine what alpha will be like.

The Dragons main attack is a % damage attack, so a Rex with 100k HP and a Rex with 20K HP will both take the same percentage of damage and therefore die at the same time (if just hit by just the main attack) So more HP is not the way to go with the Dragon

We stopped using Rexes and swapped them for Therizinosaurus
Since therizinosaurus is a herbivore, it takes 50% less damage from flyers (the dragon) and takes less damage from fire (also the dragon)

Also you can load them with vegetable cake so they can self heal a bit (still need a daeodon)

This will make the fight a lot easyer cause they can handle more then a Rex (just against the dragon, the other bosses, Rex is King)

It still doable with 18 Rex's (just rexes with more dps and less HP and better saddles) but 18 Therizinosaurus for an easy win

18 Therizinosaurus with only 12k base health (lower HP is better but need enought to handle the other attacks and so the veg cakes and the daeodons can keep up) and everything in DPS for the win

Very informative reply! Thanks! I guess I will start looking to get a decent Theri line going now since the ones we currently have aren't very good and just keep the Rexes for the Megapithicus.

I don't know why we didn't think about using different dinos because we actually use Megatherium for the Broodmother and they shred her really quickly on beta. Haven't tried alpha yet.

Thanks a ton for the reply man!

Megatherium once they get the bug killer buff own the Broodmother. The only hard part of the Alpha Broodmother is having one Megatherium tank the Broodmother long enough for the others to get the bug killer buff and swap over. Once you have survived the first 30 seconds and now all Megatherium have the buff, you have won (just keep swapping around when the buff has 20 seconds to go, so it never runs out, or you die)

Alpha Megapithicus, you don't even need a daeodon, just stay where you ported in and someone pull him to you. The only hard part of that fight is getting the Spinosaurus Sail to summon him.

You will find the Alpha Tek Cave so much easier to do then Alpha Dragon. Its a walk in the park compared to to that. Just a long walk in the park (going down the Tek cave is slow, as you have to fear all dinos so they can not pull you off your Rex and pulling the giga's into the lava can be a pain) Level 622 dinos in the Alpha Tek Cave can hurt if they pull you off your dino

The stats seem a little low from what iv seen dragon done with , when my tribe used to do it on legacy before i went to fresh start we used 19 rexs with 35k hp and 1000% melee and a yuti. i mean im sure you could do it with less than that but thats to give an idea.
a good strat is to use the groups function, have one tribe member control group 1, another group 2 etc and split up how you want. that way you can keep them attacking from different angles so it limits how many are going face first against the dragon. use whisle passive to pull your rexs to you then run around and attack my target from behind etc.

Wow guys.. this all sounds pretty crazy. I had a quick question, when we talk about tribes and all of this wapping around... can a SP or small tribe of 3 really tackle these bosses?

Mind you, I am still building thatch houses and fighting with my first bow. :)

35k hp and 1000% melee for gamma dragon?! Wow, I had no idea it would require that much considering how fast we destroy the other 2 bosses. It sounds like we're going to give the Theris a try because I'm not even sure we can obtain rexes with those stats. It took us like a month to even get our rex line to what it is now. :(

We actually do use the group whistles. They are a life saver and something I feel is very under utilized by a lot of players. Thanks for the reply!

Yeah that bug killer buff is amazing. I think the biggest problem we have with the Broodmother is getting enough members online at the same time to ride the Megatheriums. Haha

Thanks man, I'm going to be looking for good Theri dinos for days now.
