Is there a way to retrieve my ascended character (ps4)

I know this i not really a console forum but I don't know any for that and I'm hoping there's a pc option I can adapt. I finally beat the gamma overseer on solo, ascended and now my character appears to be gone. When I select single player it just goes to character creation screen with the option to start a new game by creating new survivor or download survivor (which has no survivors to download. I don't want to lose all the hard work I spent on my game so is there any way to get my character back to keep playing?

To clarify I'm not asking about solutions like "restore save/back up" that I can do/have done (I've had too many bad experiences not to keep a regular save) but I don't get the ascension then. So I have my character to play but I want to ascend however when I do it deletes my character so I want a way to retrieve my character after ascension so I can ascend.

You're suppose to download the survivor. When you beat the boss, your character is uploaded and when you respawn, you download it

That makes sense. This does not happen if the server has downloads off. Then your character stays on the server.

No its not a download character issue (I spend 20 minutes digging up that bit of info). I've done some experimentation (yay for paranoid saves) and as far as I can determine. Gamma ascension wipes everything game data, map data, character data nothing to see here move along. Beta ascension wipes achievements but you can download your character and alpha ascension wipes achievements but you start on the island rather than needing to download. Of course you get no achievement for this as its wiped along with everything else leaving just the buildings, alpha implant and survivor. I was thinking I'd need to go in and beat it on alpha (might be possible detail after *) then download my saved local profile to get the old achievements back then use cheat codes to go in by myself (don't want to lose dinos/gear) and kill the overseer then myself to get the dossier entry and rewards back but not ascend. However I'll try this no download and see if it makes a difference.

What happened initially was I went in with my dino's fought down to the end of the heat section. Then casually took care of the giga by standing up on my rex and shooting him with a pheremone dart to lure him and any other dino's into the lava. I had however missed a kaprosuchus who takled me off my rex and into the lava as well killing us both and my dino's who were on follow. At the time I ranted . . . a lot then saved and cheated in dinos to see what was ahead and then the gamma ascension wiped it. If it handn't been for that kaprosuchus my last save would have been a week ago and I'd have lost an entire base I'd spent that time building. So once I'm done playing around with this asension stuff I'll be building a grave to the nameless kaprosuchus in my main base as he saved my game data with his actions.

Just tested Gamma ascension with no survivor download checked it sort of worked. Character spawns properly with beta implant. So partial download issue partial bug. With survivor downloads unchecked gamma wipes the character data so you can't download or spawn with it checked you spawn properly but the gear you have on you is wiped. I'm going to get something to eat but I'll test beta/alpha later and if I remember check the skins I should be getting are appearing.

EDIT 2
Tested Beta and Alpha they function the same with no survivor download ticked. So there you go if your playing console and have the ability to check/uncheck that for your game make sure its check when ascended and while you'll lose any gear you have equipped you will otherwise ascend propery (at least till they fix this bug).
