File size of ark is 235 gb?

Been tryin to DL the free dlc packs and for a long time they wouldnt dl and it kept saying update failed. Finally got it tonight and the 5 gb patch that i downloaded turned into 235 gb, whats going on?

The Map packs are very large in file size due lack of commpession in Unreal, especially the Ragnarok being the biggest of them all. My ARK file size is 138 GB as of this post.

Welcome to Ark the game where ya download double the size of the game for every 4 megabytes in a patch. lol It should go down in file size once the patch is complete mate. It's just the jacked up way on how they have it set up on Steam to download patches and stuff.

Ah thanks yea makes sense just crazy that it was such a process to install patches, never had trouble like this with other games, although DnL was really bad so i guess i shouldnt have been surprised.

Your welcome mate. Don't feel bad we all have had some issues with this game in regards to the patches at some time or another. I think it's more noticable in this game mainly because of it being larger in file size when they do push content out. Most other games I don't hardly ever notice or have an issue with disk space being ate up so much. This one always seems to catch me off guard though. lol You should be good for awhile though now after you got everything set up.

Steam just isn't good with continuous patching. If it gets really bad like that, you should uninstall and reinstall the game.

I just did that (surprisingly kept my single player save) and the base file size before DLC maps is 66 gigs.

Don’t know what’s you did but mine is at 110-120gb have some mods, the center and ragnarok installed

It might be all the mods you did subscribe to. You might want to unsubscribe from them.
I don’t know if you then need to delete them manually or if it’s automatic

steam says i need 200GB of free space. (after installation some files get deleted) and it brings it down to about 130GB-140GB with mods.

the amount of space steams says you need when you click install is more then the game will take up. its probably an image file steam downloads, then installs the game on your system, then the image files get deleted again. (with image file i mean something like .ISO)

Seems pretty ridiculous even for a game in 2019, only game I could find to match the file size was call of duty's modern warfare at 175 GB.

Is it actually 175gb after install? I didn’t bought the the so i don’t really know but i assume that it isn’t 175gb. The devs probably listed that much for future updates to the game but right now i’m pretty sure it isn’t 175gb

HHD space isn’t a problem but what the problem is, is that you need to download all of that and depending you connection speed it might take 2h or 3 days and that is bad

Tell me about it, CenturyLink has a monopoly on my area and refuses to bring download bandwidth above 0.86 mbs.
Ark isn't worth the amount of time to download updates, same reason I uninstalled GTA-V after the 80gb microtransaction gambling update.
