Ichthyornis not picking up dodos lystros etc.
As the title. My ichthyornis will attack from the air, buyt he wont pick them up and i cant get prime... Any advice.

EDIT: Resolved problem. Flyer Carry PVE needs to be checked in the UI for tamed Ichthyornis to pick up wild animals in PVE.

Turn on corpse collection in the tames radial menu

its is on... And i wouldn't think that would stop him from picking up a live dodo... Thats for harvesting from things that are already dead isn't it?

Extra details... Non-dedicated, 2 players on Lan, PVE with PVEflyer carry enabled (tried both enabled and disabled.

I've found a few other posts at ark forums and here on steam with the same problem, but i cant find any solutions. No one have any ideas whats going on here?

try uploading it, then downloading it from the obelisk

That didn't work either. Uploaded, restarted client (in case that made a difference), downloaded, threw it at a lystro and it still wont pick it up, just attacks from the air. I should point out that it doesn't seem able to kill anything from the air either. I tried spawning in a lvl 1000 one and it still cant kill a lvl 5 lystro no matter how often it dive bombs it. I also tamed another one that spawned in naturally and i tamed normally (not console commands like the lvl 1000). I've also checked in a regular single player game. I have not tried a whole new save, but considering how far me and my niece have progressed that would be a bitter pill to swallow for an 8 yr old.

hunting fish works fine BTW.

Not sure if it's gonna be any help but I had this issue a lot, also my daeodon would not stop healing and hesperornis would glitch out trying to lay golden eggs... I had all those problems in singleplayer only. Now I'm only playing on a server with people and stuff stopped happening.
His Quivzness Jan 21, 2018 @ 12:41am
It does seem to be a single player thing. I've not found anyone claiming its happening on servers, but since this is a local map i play with my niece with easy settings i dont have many options. I'll try setting up a dedicated server and moving the map over and see if that helps. But that will be a project for another day.

I have now tried making a backup and then deleting the map. Then i starting again fresh and ichthyornis still act the same. I was really expecting this to be related to the specific map instance and a new one would fix the problem, but its still bugged.

Are you sure the Icthyornis can even carry live dinos? i just checked the wiki and it makes no mention of such a feature... tbh as a shoulder pet, i'd be surprised if it could do such a thing.

Yes i'm sure... I've done it hundreds of times before in other playthroughs. Its what the ichthyornis is for.

This direct from the Wiki:
"When told to attack or thrown at a fish, the Ichthyornis will catch, kill, and return carrying its target. Its prey's corpse will have an aura indicating that collecting from the corpse will provide Prime Fish Meat, even if it is not normally dropped by the target creature. Additionally, there are several land creatures from which it can enable collection of Prime Meat from including Dodo, Pegomastax, Lystrosaurus, Trilobite, and Compy."

And even if it wasn't supposed to pick the dodo up (which it 100% is) then it still wouldn't explain why a lvl 1000 ichthyornis with over 500% melee damage would be unable to kill a lvl 5 lystro.

oh wait i see what you mean. It doesn't say it can carry a LIVE dodo, only that it will bring you the corpse... To this i can only state again that i have used this feature many times in the past and the ichthyornis picks up the dodo, lystro etc. in its beak and then circles periodically doing damage to the carried creature (indicated by the periodic blood splatters). After a while it will kill the creature its holding (giving the noirmal on screen text, "your such-and-such has killed a so-and-so) and then bring the corpse back to you, which will have a yellow particle effect to indicate that it was specialy caught by the ichthyornis and will give prime meat despite this not normally being harvestable from this creature.

Honestly i'm surprised that you've got almost 3000 hrs on Ark and didn't know that thats what ichthyornis is for and what they've always done since they came out.

lol, i burned out on Ark before the little blighters were a "thing", and frankly, as uses go for a critter, they don't have enough of one to stop me viewing them, along with pegos, as filthy vermin fit only for early game slaughter :P
His Quivzness Jan 21, 2018 @ 11:42am
Fair enuf i guess. I use them early game for prime before i get farms up and running and have access to kibble. And even then if i need prime for kibble and i cant be bothered going for a walk you can throw one at a dodo for a few prime quickly. Them not working properly is not the end of the world. Me and my niece are just continuing on for ow, but it would really be nice to have their functionality back.
