Redwoods are killing us
We managed to build a base in the redwoods near the swamp, and managed to put metal dino gates around the edge to stop alphas destroying the base. But as soon as we walk outside we get wrecked by Thylas and terror birds and can't fight back.

I went away for three weeks and no one logged on to feed our tamed so they got claimed or starved. What do guys I'd like advice please. Even the argents and pteradons are gone

well, if you build a base, and leave for weeks, well, no wonder that your dino died or got claimed, but whatever,

in your case i guess ill make few, pilar tower defence with plant x ?8but will effective only after it grow),
or i would make lots of stone fence foundation, but a lot everywhere, to prevent spawn, (or pillar as you wish)

then kill everything on sight with a dino, but if you dont have a dino, well ...

Flyers starve faster than other tames usually, then the other carnivores and lastly the big herbivores. Building in the redwoods requires a certain vigilance and heavy building to help stop spawns, as things will definitely spawn inside a big open dino area despite a fence to keep things from wandering in. This being said you could tame a terror bird if you have the narc, or a ptera since they spawn in the redwoods, to begin re-filling your tame roster, but if you are not going to be on very often they will be at risk. Make a barn for your tames to protect them till you have enough so they can defend from things spawning and make sure to have a trough or two to keep them fed, and if push comes to shove you can always move base locations to someplace less hostile.

@Anguel backstory to that,I went overseas and my right hand man said he would look after the base, and ended up going to a rag server and left our work to rot. And no one else logged on to help either so it all just got forgotten til I came back

@Kisston thanks a lot mate I will take note of all of that and hopefully get us back on track now.

yes i also agree with trying to get a pterra, even if a low level one, that hlps you to get out of the forrets at leats and try to get um ressources form outside should the forrest be too dangerous.

there are a few ledges in the redwoods you could build on or big pillars..might take a little work building up to them but it would be worth it. Also make sure when out and about fighting bring a couple extra spike walls with you and possibly some bolas. They help a ton especially when starting out. If the server has the setting so that unridden dinos take dmg from spike walls the wild ones will pretty much get destroyed by these things.

Thanks Brue. So let me get this right, putting up a bunch of pillars outside the base will stop dinos from spawning in there?

And do turrets need to be connected to power to function? and also, where is the best place to get rexes for taming?

Tree platforms are always good too
However on my server I have S+, the normal tree platforms aren't as builder friendly
AlphaboyZz Jan 17, 2018 @ 5:23am
yeah tree platforms are really nice. Turrets do need to be near a power outlet if you are using regular generators..not quite sure what the exact max distance from outlet to turret can be though. Pillars do stop spawns last I checked if not just use stone foundations here and there spaced out. However the foundations will kill resource spawns further out then pillars.

Are you on official or unofficial?

Species X groups will do wonders for keeping the area clear. A good 4-6 per corner will keep the riff-raff down.

I guess it doesn't really matter. You need to set up a taming/trap pin. Just basically use it to trap dinos that you don't feel like fighting at the time. You can build this pretty easily. It'll help against things like terror birds and stuff like that. Someone else recommended pillars, and I can confirm that it's one of the best ways. Here's a method:

Build a series of pillars w/ a ladder on them outward from your base. That will prevent dino spawns in that area.

If you wish to use PSX, pay attention to the settings. If it hits a Titan or a Giga, it will wreck everything.

@Vive I'm on unofficial

@Lord Yes I have all fertilized X on my roof to keep away unwanted guests, and so far its been working this last night

@Vive Yeah I've set up a couple pens now and got most of our tames back so we are going pretty well now, the rates are boosted so it has made getting back on a lot easier. Now we just need to get some proper gates and start farming for a metal base to get out of stone, I think we will be ok.

I wouldn't build here again though, theres too much stuff to get caught on and annoying things always trying to kill you. Might go to the snow next.

Plant Species X will not hit Titans, and I am not sure they even affect Gigas anymore. I know gigas will ignore them.

Didn't know that Dilo, thanks for the update

Mix a gun turret in with them. 1 or 2 mixed with X are just brutal.
