PC - Stair problem
Hello everyone, sorry for my bad english it's not my first language ^^
I'm playing in SE area in the Island map and I'm using Wood buildings.

I have a huge problem with stairs. I want to create a stair that goes from water level up to a huge rocky wall (?). The problem is that I can't find a way to build stairs going upside because as soon as I put a ceiling the next stair goes down and I haven't found any way to change it to an up version.
Online I didn't found anything regarding this, so I must do something wrong (maybe there is a key to press or idk).

I tried to find another solution: ladders. Everything really cool until I get to the top and... well, I can't find a way to build a platform that goes from top (tried with ceilings, foundations, hatchframes and idk what else...) because I have no "foundations" to keep them up.
So basically in this game I can build a vertical stair (ladder) as high as I want but there is no way to build a stair that goes up easilly.

Foundations are a really really cool thing, but damn if it's hard to build something different than a house...

It's also hard to build pillars on a natural rock wall :sigh:

Any tips or even a link to YT would be awesome!
Thank you all.

Not really sure if i undertood what you said. When building, you can use the E Key to rotate and the Q to change the snaping point. Try hiting the Q to see if it change to where you want.

Also, when you said "SE area in the Island map," I'm not sure what you're trying to say, since SE stands for Scorched Earth, which is a separate map from The Island.

Start at the top and build your stairs down.

I think I tried using some keys but I've actually never seen any difference. I'll try again focussing on this 2 keys, thanks!

Actually is just geographical terminology, SE stand for South-East. Since in other topics I've seen people talking about NW (North-West) referring to the icy area I thought it was common use among players ^^

Yeah, thought about and tried that too but it's still hard because I can't build under myself if I'm on a platform. Last night I got stuck tring just that...

Anyway I just think that I have to do a proper basic structure.

I've searched some video online that sadly don't anwer to my questions but at least gives me a few ideas.
My point was to create something cheap but in the end I have to gather tons of resources xD

You can build scaffolding out of thatch next to where you want to build the stairs so you can place pillars underneath or hover on a flyer and place them from the back of the flyer.

SE has stood for cardinal directions for far longer than they stood for Scorched Earth.

I think I was too dumb to think about a scaffholding out of thatch :steamsad: Totally going to think of that!!!

You deserve nothing less than a heart. <3

I'm guessing this is the kind of thing you want.

This was built from the top of the cliff on Sooky Baby Island, TI to the ground. Gap between each pillar is 2 foundations. Pillars get built from the ground up, final ceiling is added 2 layers below the stairs coming down. Connect x2 stairs, fly down, build another tower. Rinse and repeat. :)

More detailed shot underneath.

This is awesome! And this is exactly what I have to face. Yesterday I thought of doing something like that and I still have to try (yesterday was GoT day so no time to play).

I think I'm going to try something similar but I want to try to add a easier way to build pillars. Like erecting first one from top and then creating a "ceiling road" in order to let me build pillars without going up and down all the time (I still don't have a mount, I wanted to do this project first).

Like... going from RIGHT to LEFT
-- foundation
_ ceiling
| pillar
/ rocky wall

2.

6.

And so on.
Then I'm gonna remove all the ceilings and to build a ramp or a stair still not sure.

Anyway thank you all for answering!

Just found an example of one of my ramp builds first shot is the beginning of construction, second shot is finished.
