Another reason to use bears is that they do big damage against hives, and are immune to bee stings (any other mounts would forcefully dismount you). You can farm honey every 15 minutes from the same hive, but if you choose to destroy it, a queen bee will appear (assuming it has a queen bee inside. Some hives might be empty as a dino wipe/server reset will get rid of the queen). You can tame the queen bee via bug repellent and rare flower. Then you can turn the queen bee into a structure (yes, a structure) and it'll only need rare flowers to keep the hive alive while it makes honey overtime.
If you are using the Structures+ mod there is an option there too but that would bypass the experience of taming a queen bee.
