Getting timed out on modded (and mods taking 30 minutes to load)
I've been trying to join modded servers, and prior to the newest update, I was able to connect to them. After this update (and unsubbing from all the mods I was subbed to) I keep getting timed out when trying to connect. Also, despite having ark saved on an ssd (and the mods too), it takes in excess of 30 minutes to load 30 mods, just for me to get timed out. Does anyone know a fix? I've had this time out issue in the past, with worse pcs.

BTW I can run this game on medium/high graphics with ease above 60 fps.

Timeout is a server side setting from the admins side.

If you try to join a server without fully downloading and installing the mods first you will time out.

Connect to the server. Let it throw you back to the main menu and then down the bottom right should tell you the ongoing progress of the mod installation.

Alternatively quit the game and manage it through steam.

If you continue to have issues a clean install of the mods may be needed.

In the bug subthread there's a pinned faq discussion. Look for the section named "mod installation troubleshooting"

all the mods are fully installed. I've tried connecting to the same server around 10 times today.

I load the mods up, fully, begin connecting, then it times me out. Like I said, it takes 30 minutes for all the mods to load. They're installed.

Unsubbing does not delete potentialy corrupted mod files.

You need to unsub AND manualy delete mod files to do clean reinstalls

Can you load into a SP map with the exact same mods without issue?

Also mod corruption is a thing. Refer to the pinned discussion I mentioned earlier for proper reinstallation instructions to troubleshoot mod issues.

I did that, and now the game crashes when I try to join a server. Also the load time for the mods is still more than 30 minutes, despite being loaded from an ssd.

Just two days ago, I had one server take a very long time to connect and then timeout, similar to what the OP is describing. About 1 minute per mod for the total time it takes to connect. Typically the first time I try to connect to a server after starting ARK it almost always times out (this is with all mods subscribed and installed). I then try again without restarting ARK and it loads much quicker and there is no timeout.

Unlike the OP, I am connecting to servers with 16 or 17 mods. I wouldn't even think to try 30 mods. I doubt I'd ever get connected with that many.

I took a break from playing ARK for over a year. The timeout that occurs when a mod is not subscribed when you first join a server has always been annoying but is nothing new. But this timeout when joining a server because the mods take so long to load (this is not a corrupt mod problem like some are saying, if you do get in, the mods work fine) is something I don't recall seeing. I'd really like to hear an actual answer and not just, reinstall your mods type of response.

back before i got my good pc, i would timeout 6-8 times loading mods from a server.
then the actual login to the server would take 30minutes.
you need to just keep relogging and being patient until it eventually lets you in.
the 1st time is the worst.
any subsequent logins will go MUCH faster.

Yes, we all know this (at least I do and I think the OP does), but why should the game be such a pain and is there a way to improve this?

I honestly went and played different games for a few years. I love ARK, but I sure to like it better when it takes 5 minutes to get into a game instead of 30 minutes or more.

I tried to transfer to a new server in a cluster that had the Antartika map. It took about 10 minutes to download and install the map and about another 1 1/2 hours to finally get into the game with my transferred character. A few minutes after logging, the game froze (just your typical Killed by ARK stuff, I don't think it was the mods fault). At this point, I had enough. I have lots of patience, but this exceeded my limit.

When a game has almost as much waiting for stuff as playing (or even 1/4 of the time waiting), a game can be less fun and more frustrating. That is when I stop playing and find a different game (or maybe I'll buy a new PC).

30 mins to log into the server? Is that normal Ark or Primitive plus (which is insanely bad at loading.

I think its bad when it takes 10 seconds to get into the game.

If you are running discord or something else at the same time close them totally before trying to connect.

i DID say "only the 1st time"
every time after the initial login took less than a minute.

I've tried logging in to the same server several times without restarts. With my old pc (still met the minimum requirements), loading mods would take forever. Some mods load quickly, while big ones, like eternal, primal fear etc, take around 5 to 10 minutes each.
With my new pc, I far exceed the minimum requirements, and loading in to servers still takes forever, and the time doesn't change. I've had to deal with the logging in til it works before, but it's just not working. The game clearly needs to fix something. I don't want to waste 5 hours of my life logging in just to play 2 hours of gameplay.

Solid State Drive improves mod loading time a lot. I play on severs with 10 mods, and reconnect (1st time or any time) to the server and in game and playing in under 10 seconds.

I'm using an ssd, and the load times are at minimum 10 minutes. I'm also crashing now when trying to join the server.
