Trying to understand melee stat on dinos

Hi all,

I play single player and I'm getting into breeding. I'm trying to undersdtand the melee stat. Its always expressed as a percentage, but I can't figure wqhat that means. For example- I just tamed a level 5 rex (with 1 level taming effectiveness). The melee stat is 538.8%. When I bite something it does 334 damage. There is no explanation of the stat percentage on the wiki.

I've tweaked a bunch of options to make the game more single player friendly and a little harder. But the only two things I could think of that would effect this is taming time (which is way down, I tamed this rex in 8-10 minutes with regular raw meat) and difficulty which is at 0.3 (10% higher than the default)

Tl;Dr:
I've seen pictures of t-rex stats for level 200+ where the melee damage is around 400% and people said it was good. So I have no idea what I'm looking at when I see my level 5 with 538.8%. Can someone explain melee damage percentage to me?

Use an online calculator, Ark smart breeding program, or modded spyglass to get the stats as # of points in each stat.

You want to breed together the highest points at tame to make the best bloodline you can.

Each species has a base damage. Then the percentage is applied.

There is also a calculator on the dodex for on each dino page. You type in the percentage and it will tell what the actual damage points are.

Have a look at this page which will tell you the base damage of a dino. I expect it will be clear after that

If it isn't. Base dmg on rex is 62. 62 x 538.8% = 334
