What you need the most are high quality saddles. And it's probably best to stay on rexes rather than shooting from ground as the flying dinos might attack you.
I think your melee is too low. Have you tried gamma / beta dragon? I would test them there. I'm actually surprised you got through beta varities of the other bosses but I play solo so perhaps the additional tribe mates helps.
I have same armor saddles and have just been grinding loot drops for better ones until I progress to alpha boss fights. I don't use daedons, I don't feel they offer as much as extra firepower would in a fight assuming you control your Rexes well in a fight.
Im pretty sure pig heals dont stack, thus your loosing dps by having pigs instead of rexs which makes you need more healing.
the deer strat is to force the dragon to stay on the ground as they kind lodge him in spot plus again herbivores take less damage vs fire.
As the dragon comes down run in with the deer and try to get aggro. Obviously keep everything away as it lands and spread out so fireballs dont hit your grouped up rexs.
This guy does uses the same method but there are multiple videos about this on youtube.

I suspected it gamey and was right though I guess you could argue the deer is the tank.
• I've been trying to find a decent saddle ( must of raised swamp cave over 50 times) that all I've found.
• I see what you mean about the melee on the Rex's, I think there is only one who got the 350 melee and rest are 450-550 on mine. So hopefully that changes something.
• Thanks for info on the theri strategy, I would go though with it if but I dont want to farm it or something, but remember this is once off (I farm mega atm) and that is A LOT of time to raise theriz from scratch. Will do it but only as last resort.
• Doenst the dragons fire attack make it really hard to do the fight with the Rex's?
• Can someone confirm if the healing on daeodons stack or if it is a waste to bring more than one.
• Does the dragons fire attack 360 degrees around it ( maybe a deer can tank and Rex's can munch behind it)
• exact % damage for the fire attack on herbivores?
Sorry for all questions I'm very curious, cuz I dont alwasy trust the wikis
The easy water cave doesn't have very many threats, the worst you can find is an alpha sharks, but that'd be really rare. Otherwise, Baryonyx can take care of the cave easily as long as you're careful for the jellyfish.

Also, normal and alpha mosy can sometimes spawn in there, but mosys are bugged in the cave where they can't fight back and will instead flee.

Lol, the link you sent actually does say that you can find rex saddles in sea caves.
The cave itself has really high quality chances, and all lootboxes can contain rex saddle. It'll probably still take some time, but it's the fastest method imo.
Armor only helps against the dragons melee attack and fireball.
Also about herbivores fire resistance against fire breath is heavily discussed topic. Some say it goes through fire res, some say it helps for 20% or so damage.
