Please Help!!!!! (About to quit this game perm)

I'm playing singleplayer ark and my character just keeps deleting out of nowhere i sign in and need to make a new character (character still exists in the world and the world exists i just cant access it) this has happened twice now. once after a crash and the other after my computer just took a major ♥♥♥♥ and slowed down so much i had to force shutdown so i would assume it has to due with that (just need a solution or maybe its something completley different

sometimes when you start a new map it asks you to respawn in a random location or to make a new character and I make a new character but it deletes my old one and locks all my dinos and buildings to the old character it never really says what character you are deleting so I sometimes forget and ruin my save but if you are getting hard crashing I don't really know what is causing that sorry.

Make redundant backups of your save folders everytime you play.

There is even programs to automate this for backups while you play.

Or use ASM to run a LAN server, then the save files are completely separate from the client.

im sorry i generally dont have this negative attitude but ive been dealing with this games ♥♥♥♥ for a long time (played on console) and the devs make no effort to fix it (i just wish that all this wouldnt happen in the first place) thanks anyways

Playing on PC gives you access to the save files that you didn't on console. The access means that if you make the effort to backup you saves, rollbacks are minimal. Not back to the beginning.

First, do a file verification to make sure the game doesn't have any borked files.
Second... or maybe first since it's quicker... Make sure none of your save folders/files, particularly your LocalPlayer files (since the character seems to be what you're losing) are marked as read only.

Edit: Also, given the circumstances where you lost the characters, yeah, that's probably a huge contributing factor. Stuff like that tends to corrupt files, hence why people are suggesting regular backups. Game files are no different than other files you don't want getting borked by a crash.

Not being a fanboy or anything, but to be fair I don't think this sounds like a problem caused by the game or the actions of the devs, since you are the only one it is happening to. Could the problem by your system? I played on a rig that was already old when Ark first came out right up until last fall so I know how frustrating that can be. BSODs, hard crashes, lockups, had them all. Once I went into debt for 3 yrs to get a new, top-line machine I was blown away by how well it runs with everything on epic and even with huge bases fully decorated and putting my RTX through a real workout when loading in. Once the initial RTX bugs were fixed it has run like a dream. Maybe time for an upgrade? These games are getting very demanding lately.

You could use console admin commands to give yourself those lost levels back, and reclaim all lost dinos/structures of the tribe. It would be all of 2-3 commands, xp command, force join tribe command, force to become leader of tribe command.

It would seem you are also having issues with corrupted save files, you can change in .ini files for ark singleplayer to change save times to be every 5 minutes instead of the default 15, so if crashes do happen its less likely to corrupt again or you won't lose progress.

Honestly, if anything try hosting it as a private/passworded lan server(from the singleplayer menu) and it creates different files/saves and saves almost every action. I do this and I havent lost a save in ages)

how do you password-save a non-dedicated session? I only get it admin-pw-saved. But not complete private...

Are you positive the characters are deleted or have you just been making new ones all the time?
Upload whatever character you are on at an Obelisk and you should get a list of all single player characters that you have available to download.

Lots of problems with Ark but honestly this sounds more like an ebkac to me

theyre still in the world but it doesnt prompt me to spawn as them or anything else
