They are a glass cannon type dino to answer your weaker question. Big damage, not tons of health. They are also a stamina based (stamina reaching zero makes them fall off the prey) dino when it comes to their unique pounce and attack ability (right click).
Well Allos and Wolves get pack bonus too, but those are 224 tames.
I'm mostly interested in breeding high stat dinos and honestly It seems that there's not much point in breeding Deinonychuses other than cosmetics.
Deino gets a pack bonus based on numbers (and I think it has a higher number allowed than wolves), including the pack leader bonus for the highest level one, and the roar acts like the wolf howl to temporarily boost pack stats. PLUS... every pack member can latch and apply the bleed damage, which stacks.
So, yeah, I think limiting the eggs to spawn max level coupled with being breedable is fair.
Ok, thanks for the details. Maybe breeding Deinonychuses is not a waste of time after all.
Plus it is an egg stealing tame, so you dont have to wait for tranq arrows or build traps. And unlike rock drakes or wyverns, requires no special food to raise. Heck, you could start a breeding program right from level 1, so that when you get to the saddle engram level, you already had a good one waiting to ride.
For solo and PVE, they are mainly just a fluff dino that is fun to use, but not the best at really anything. Soooo cool and fun though. I'm gonna be breeding them anyway in my SP game.
I was thinking in a similar way when creating this post. But then made a quick test on single-player, tamed couple of 150s, bred to max hp/dmg and then grown 5 of those with best stats with 100% imprinting.
With the pack bonus a bunch of 200 Deinos are easily destroying a Deathworm in the desert, so i think they're at least more powerful than Raptors.
Honestly at this point i'm curious if i breed further can i get a Bloodmother or a Megapithecus kill with Deinos only.
I agree, getting a boss kill with them would be epic, maybe with you running around buffing them via Yuty. I would guess that they wouldnt be able to latch onto a boss though. I bet they would have that disabled. Or have the damage nerfed so that it isnt a percentage bleed when latched onto a boss. But who knows?
I like that they took a small and fast dino with low health and made it especially effective at killing really big dinos. I dont play Ark in PvP, but I imagine that these guys are going to totally shake up the playing field where bigger wont necessarily be better. According to the wiki, they can latch onto any player-mountable flyer too, which is crazy. :)
Pack bonus doesn't always show up, it's kinda buggy. But for me the highest level dino in the pack always can roar with C button.
You need at least 3 dinos to form a pack.
Also i've noticed that rejoining the server fixes "Pack Leader" buff, but if you move away / come back to back it again becomes glitchy.
