I got a few from the Trilobites but I've not found any elsewhere yet.

Yeah, between trilobites and euryptids in the ocean, I'd think they'd be readily available.

woop i found 1 black pearl on a trilobite, in fact it was the only trilobite i found and that was in the abberation area lol only several more thousands to go :(

From reddit: If you head to 45 33, there will be an underwater trench with an underwater entrance to the underground ocean. Once you swim down, head North East and around 40 25 you will see black pearls littered everywhere on the otherside of another trench. Its pretty safe, except for a few mosas, some electric eels, and some sharks, but if youre fast then they arent much of an issue.

It was not originally called "Aberration" the players nicknamed it that because it looks like said previous DLC. Dev's had names for the regions like "The Unknown" and "The Abyss." And if you are talking about the in game map it does not open up until after you explore an area.
