Never found any way to fix it apart from a DestroyWildDinos, but that only works until they've respawned and once again turned the ground black with chittering chitin. I asked the map creator more than once and he never gave any hint he intended to fix the map for SP so I gave up and started a server.
The SP is literally just a shoe horned server and client in one. And since its not the core game it gets about as much support and focus from the devs as you'd expect.
I found that It doesn't kill my frame rate as much if I entered using the big cave water entrance on the southeast coast though. I found if i entered that way and killed my way towards the other side, that it wasn't too bad and i could get the artifact.
I also looked at it as a plus: If I entered from the southeast coast cave and killed my way though, it was insanely good for leveling dinos. (i often had to turn off harvesting on my mount though, as i would get full with meat and chitin in no time. Not an issue if you use a stacking mod, i imagine)
