my problem with that is the downloading is borked and half the time deletes my dinos so taming a griffin has been pointless.
i play single player and so far iv had to follow it around for a few hours to wait for it to get low enough and chain bola the thing. then its an easy tame. but in extinction everything where they spawn loves to kill everything else so its a chore to keep the thing alive even with the snow owl

Use a tapajara, doesn't need to be a high level. Find a spot nearby you can land, hop in the passenger seat, and whistle attack. That's about the only other solo strategy for knocking out a quetz.

If you don't mind mods there's also immersive taming, you use baits and petting to tame instead of the usual methods. One of the tools is is balloon bait, you get below the quetz and launch the bait into the air.

On the Island yes, but if can get your hands on a Griffin or a snow owl there are other ways to solo tame one
