Dumb question equus saddle?

What is the point of crafting a saddle if I can ride my mount bareback?

The wiki says cannot craft the whip lasso inside the saddle. Wiki says saddle is only mortar & pestle which I would not need. I have M&P long time ago.

Does the saddle armor protect only me or does it apply to the horse as well?

If we are attacked it is most likely a raptor who will dismount me so no help there unless it protects the horse. I will not get close to anything else. Just sneak attacking raptors when I stop.

It add armor defense to the dino, in this case the equus.

you can craft the lasso in this saddle. You can also craft bigger chains of narcotics for less surveillance because the things wont spoil as quickly in the equus and you can put a bigger total of narcos and spoiled meat (example)
