I don't get it... "Ark was supposed to be a Dinosaur Game"

A lot of people on the server I play complain that ARK is becoming too futuristic and is ruining itself. Am I the only one who remembers when the game first came out and we had the "We are in the Past Vs It's Aliens" Debate?

Ark was never a Dinosaur Game it was a Game with Dinosaurs in it lol

Ark is customizable. So a primitive dino survival game is possible.

well what do they expect to happen once you get to max level with all your tek gear against dinos, the game is too easy then and it'll just get boring so of course they're upping the difficulty with things other than dinosaurs, they've got to make it more challenging for end game players. the lore as far as I'm aware has always had some serious futuristic stuff going on anyway

Dinos was what drew me to ark, it was basically the jurassic park game I never knew I wanted, playing on The Island one of the few remaining legacy primitive servers is still were i get most of my ark kicks at. I mean dont get me wrong, I tamed and bred the HELL out of thorny dragons, the snow owls look amazing and there always will be a jerboa shaped hole in my life now that my server has no access to any other maps ( we can only transfer to a EU island, thanks wildcard! jagoffs) but aberration and extinction overall were not appealing to me.

To date iv not bought any DLC after SE and im quite happy (now if they release a ocean centric DLC I might change my mind, and yes the floating turtle base teased in genisis did catch my attention but im betting its a sea titan and cant be fed.)

Ark was a dinosaur game. It sold itself on the tamable dinos.

It wasn't set in prehistoric times however. From the beginning it clearly involved aliens and some future ruined Earth. There was no other way to explain the setting or gameplay.

Who cares? Why would you have to have a game only with dinosaurs in it? It's not like they added loli girls or witches on broomsticks.

The first trailer video ever released on the store page already included many instances of the floating obelisks and other tek, so there's no excuse to think this was going to be purely primitive survival.

I remember my first night on The Island and trying to piece together what these huge glowing structures would be about, then suddenly a beam of light comes down right next to my survivor and shortly after this alien looking object slowly descending from the heavens, immediately got hooked on the idea of primitive stuff together with high tech in the same world.

Obviously in the end it's a matter of taste, but at least for me ARK wouldn't be nearly as interesting if it didn't have the high tech in the first place.

They already said in the announcement stream that it will be a perma-tame unlike the Titans. Of course they may still change their mind from here until release but so far it's not planned to be a temporary tame.

I am thinking some creative modder needs to make this a TC for ARK.
