Ark just has a much larger playground and entities.
My folder is something around 160 or 180.
Here's one of the thousand this week, and it's literally only a couple hours older than yours. Still on the front page, even.

Steam will allocate enough space for the full install so it will quote this number when asking you to confirm that you want to install it. Then in the download manager it will show a much smaller number because the files are compressed for transfer.
this issue normally comes up when theres a massive content patch like a DLC and people struggle to install it due to space requirements. Its normally more space efficient to uninstall the game and reinstall with the new content, it requires a bigger download, but is more space efficient than patching.
