Ark download size almost 200GB??

I used to play ark for years and just tried to download it back but it says it requires 200gb but yet my friends have it downloaded for only around 50gb. Can anyone help?

I don't think there's any other way to have a smaller installation by default.

Yeah. Modern games with large playground are heavy. It as been common for at least 3 or 4 years now.

Ark just has a much larger playground and entities.

My folder is something around 160 or 180.

Ark with No DLC and No Mods is about a 40g Compressed download... it decompresses to ~100g

umm i hope you notice that ark on windows and linux only take 50-70 gb trust me i have both

you will download the ark with all the DLC´s at the first time..... than you can delete them

The download size is smaller than the install size. This is probably where your discrepancy with your friends download sizes comes from. They may be remembering how big the download was as opposed to how big it is once installed.

Steam will allocate enough space for the full install so it will quote this number when asking you to confirm that you want to install it. Then in the download manager it will show a much smaller number because the files are compressed for transfer.

this issue normally comes up when theres a massive content patch like a DLC and people struggle to install it due to space requirements. Its normally more space efficient to uninstall the game and reinstall with the new content, it requires a bigger download, but is more space efficient than patching.

steam lies as well, when you go to install it, it says it needs 160gb i think. That's obviously including the maps you don't have to install. it's still a bloated mess at over 100gb though. If they separated out the actual content for scorched earth and didn't make you download it for regular ark... and seperate high res texture DLC... it would probably be 40gb... but they don't and it's not
