Preferred Food on tamed dinos - makes a difference?
Hello !

i've got a bunch of dinos and i wanted to ask will putting each ones preferred food in it's inventory make their level increase faster then if i put a basic food like cooked meat? (given that they're not eating from a trough)

also if the answer above is yes - will putting different foods in a trough will make it so each dino will eat it's preferred type first?

I did a quick search, in google too and found no answer.

No, I don't believe any such mechanic exists with food. Certain dinos will only eat certain foods post tame, like the otter needing fish meat, and the achatina only eating sweet veggie cakes. "Preferred food" is only really relevant for the initial tame, not after.

I'm not sure if the broth of enlightenment works on dinos. It gives the player a 50% xp boost, might be 25%, but not sure if you can feed that to dinos. If you want to level your guys without taking them out to kill stuff I would invest some time in taming a bunch of Lystros.

You were correct, no is the answer.

Leave dino in cryopod for a day and they'll have 40+ levels on them.

Thanks !

Well i was looking for Quetzal on TheIsland
i found one and tamed it with my friend but it's level 45 or so... and this bird is well... not a strong one.
any specific ways to increase it's level other than Lystrosaurus or taking it on hunt trips?

i just don't wanna risk it.. this is not a tame i wanna go through again, even tho most of i used exceptional kibble...

any dino at any level will gain 40 levels after 24 hours in a cryopod?

Just use it. It will level up.

Pretty much. It may not be 24 hours exactly but that's what happens on official. I cryo a freshly tamed/matured dino and a short time later it has a bunch of levels.

Edit: Also Extinction OSD's give stupid amounts of XP but it doesn't sound like you're quite ready for that.

He means farm with it, kill wild dinos, etc.

The bird, just use it and it will level faster than sitting in a cryopod. As far as I know, cryopod dinos don't gain passive XP any faster than a dino standing around does.

a freshly tamed dino gets new levels after tame... it happens with or without cryopod
i think it's the same for maturing dinos

did the cryopod thing work on older dinos? on already higher level ones?
or just the fresh ones?

about the OSD, tbh i don't know what it takes but i've got some big hitters ;)
don't be hating ;)

Taming Quetz is much easier once you have a quetz to use, even a low level one. you dont have to level it a ton to use it this way. Just do a youtube search for ARK Quetzal trap, and youll find some. usually involves putting a platform saddle on it and then build the trap on the platform. Then use that trapper quetz to tame a good level one, if you can find one.

Alternatively, if all you want to use the quetz for is to pickup wild dinos and drop them into taming traps, you dont have to have a great level quetz, just put most of the leveling points into stamina.

it also wouldnt be a bad idea if you made sure that the next quetz you tamed was the opposite gender, so you can breed them, and just use the expendable babies to do the work while keeping the breeding pair safe at base.

All of this is assuming you are playing solo or in PvE. If you are doing this in PvP, it's a whole different ballgame.

Passive XP gain is solely determined by game time since time of Cryopodding, multiplied by their idle XP rates, multiplied by a final 1.05 return. Creatures at maximum level or Mek.png Mek will not gain any passive XP.
Any creature inside a Cryopod will gain 5% more passive experience, compared to the same creature not Cryopodded.

Edit: 5% pog

Here's an example of this. The saddle platform has a 4x4 floor, 4 dino gates, 8 window frames (behind the driver) with 2 ceilings on top, two ramps down to the driver, a pillar in the center of the cage with a few ceilings on it, a torch, a preserving bin, and a storage box. You fly into other quetzals until they're stuck in the cage, and can then tranq and tame them on the spot at your leisure.
