Counter piranha?
How do you fight piranha staying underwater? I know I can take care of them on a pelagornis. But that is above water. I need to fight these things underwater. Any EASY pets I can get to help?

Unacceptable answers: putting more points into any stats, potions, and armor are not the answers I am looking for.

A manta? Okay passive tame, just don't physically touch these. Or also the spear fish thing that I forgot the name. Both are fast and can take on some enemies but youd need high levels like in any ark game

Depends a bit on where really. If just in a river any carnivore will chew trough em quick enough.
A good pike is usually my go to though.

Tame a baryonix and use the tailswipe underwater ,it stunlocks the piranhas.

Pike.

Crossbow pike/spear Icthy Dolphins passive tame Sarco maybe for a hybrid land /water mount.

Pretty much any fighting dinos can take care of piranhas. They have more health and armor that makes their damage minimal. A trike would be a good start though.
I can get a hold of trikes and sarcos. Pike not working because piranha out number me. I'm in a deep lake and ocean not a shallow river. I've never tamed a sarco and was wanting a reason to anyway. I guess they are easy tames so off to the swamp to build a trap I go.

Tame a water animal
either swamp like Sarco / Baryonix / Kaprosuchus (for example)
Or under water like Megalodon (you should be able to knock it out from a raft on low level once you got it's attention) / Manta (careful those are pack animals that'll trap you underwater) / Ichtyosaurus (dolphin)
Or deep underwater like the Mosa like the tamable whale (smaller one) or so.

personally i just love sarco, they are fast in the water and they can reach a very nice amount of dmg, but you'll need a lot of time getting used to riding one cause it's has some hard to get mechanics for example - it doesn't bite to the side... when you move your mouse to the side and hit attack it'll make a 1/4 of a turn (while biting) to that side.

Baryonix are actually perfect for killing fish underwater. i heard those are pretty good for most caves also, but it ONLY eats fish meat, so if you don't regularly take it out for fish meat runs or put fish meat in its inventory or a feeding trough near him... it'll starve eventually. (tip - cook a tons of fish meat put it in the inventory it'll last much longer)
Sarco eats both fish and regular meat.

For both taming i'd suggest raw fish meat. we'll i would suggest prime fish meat or even better but they're much harder to get. you can do it with raw meat too but it'll take longer.

tbh, i used to spear/pike fishs all the time (with no tamed dinos around to help) just lure the pirhana to beaches they usually gets stuck there for a bit.

you can also try and get a crossbow. if you're playing PvE just ask ppl if they have a spare one, it's not a hard to get weapon on higher levels and it's barely used. if not you might be able to find one in blue or better drops but i'm not sure about the level restrictions.

Good luck !

I would also say a pike. Be on the look out for them and jab them before they get to you.

I feel I should give a snarky answer for that part cause it deserves it, but I'll give you a little tip: Shoulder pets dont use oxygen when they are on your shoulder and they dont take damage untill they fall off (either from you accidentally throwing them, dying or getting knocked out).

Micro raptors are the easiest to tame and replace, but otters likely would be the most functional.

why is saying "dont give me the obvious unhelpful answers" a bad thing tho ?

For personal gear, a pike is your best best, as it has better reach than a sword, but still you can be swarmed, like you said. If a tame is a valid answer, I would go with riding a sarco or baryonx. (sarco is easier to tame, IMO, and has a great non-sprinting swim speed, and eats any kind of meat. The problem you may find with using a Bary or Sarco though is that if you dismount deeper underwater, they leave you and swim for the surface, they dont stay where you dismounted them. If you want a near-the-surface water cruising mount that can go on both land and water, both of these are nice.(of course, if size and level are no object, taming a Spino is the ultimate in amphibious carnivores)

just change the behvior and it'll stick around, i use it for underwater mining of oil... dismounts and it sticks in the same place.
also you can harvest while still monted.

but ....

Why? It's far too useful for other things. It can easily stun and kill most sea creatures including alpha megas. It swims fast and on land it is also quite fast. Awesome in most caves. Can be picked up with an argie and pen tamed - right next to a salmon spawn for prime raw meat if you don't have kibble .

A great all rounder.... and you can feed it piranhas..... :)

yes it's stun ability is very handful. just remember to get it fish meat so it won't starve.

Phrasing, leading with passive aggression generally leads to more trolling than anything and rarely has the intended effect, case in point at least three 'use a pike' responses to 'what pet should I tame' sort of question.

The question was "How do you fight piranha staying underwater?" Pike is one of the appropriate answers to that question.
