Can't place structure here oil well?

I have engram oil well. I have dlc and can make other things from it but have not gone there I get engrams opened up when on Valguero instead. Have oil well found in sup drop. Have oil vein next to base. No one else in area but me. Cannot place. What am I doing wrong. Get the "can't place structure here" but it's an oil vein which is rare so why?

Is this single player or on a server?


You cannot build anywhere near supply drops or caves by default. And that message is what you get when you try. You can enable that in the ini though if it is single player or if you are the admin of the server.

In your GameUserSettings.ini under [Server Settings] place the following:

AllowCaveBuildingPvE=True
PVEAllowStructuresAtSupplyDrops=True
AllowCrateSpawnsOnTopOfStructures=true

Lots of breakable rocks but I smashed them all. I'm on official. There is no cave or special guarded thing anywhere near it. I'm going to guess it's a glitched oil well site and report it as a bug. Thx for help.

My land so it would be my own pillar if it is registering one up on top a cliff or down below a cliff maybe. But I doubt this because my neighbors set an oil well down right next to my pillar on the other side of my base so nah. But I'll look again to be sure.

Being on official will not cause me to be famous or shut me up. And if I'm "last" it doesn't bother me one bit. I wasn't here to be the first.

If I wanted insanely high rates, broken mods, estranged players, or feel like I'm playing lonely single player online I would go with unofficial. But NOT.

Once you sunken 2k+h on offical, you'll understand, not going to stop you from enjoying the grind.


Your issue is very likely a too close supplydrop spot.

Long ago you could build around supply drops. Short story i lost a base to it as i built too close to it, it was probably a 30m radius around.

I haven't checked the new map, but it might be some special lootthing near.
Pretty sure the boxes from rag in viking bay and the mountain next to blovk building too.

I just had this same problem. I got my pick out and took a whack at the oil vein...turns out there was a piece of obsidian there as well. Busted it and was able to place the oil pump.

If it's the 2 oil veins in the mountains of Valguero ... the orbital drop is up on the mountain top and its blocking range goes sadly over the 2 veins. You can't see that good.

Thank you for this. I couldn't figure it out and tried a few things. After reading your comment, I went pickax mad all around the vein and there was a block of crystal hidden inside the thing. Now I'm good.

idk if you're talking about the veins on the mountain in the redwoods but i did manage to build on them! it's super glitchy tho. what you wanna do is go on them with nothing on you but the oil pump and stand literally inside the build preview on the vein and it'll be buildable in that position. you will be stuck inside he pump after you built it so your only way out is to die.
