What are the "tek dinos" for?
I'm new to the game and just got it yesterday and I am having much fun! I built a small base on a beach and I went outside into the night to see something glowing. I was scared so I put my first and only pet dodo bird in my home and took a torch out to confront it. It looks like a robot and is a parasaur. What can I do with it? It's friendly. Can I tame it? Is it rare? What's it for? Will it attack me?

Oh, but do they doing anything other than the normal dinosaurs. Like specific traits such as not having to eat or something? Is it worth taming and how hard is it to tame?

They have slightly better base stats... tame them the same way you would normal dinos.

Tek parasaur... knock out and shove mejoberries up it.
Ok, thanks! I wonder how tech dinosaurs could ever be part of the lore but I guess i'll find out!
If they are high level and look good tame them. If they are lower level or you just don't want them, kill them. You get scrap metal, electronics and element dust from them.
Or why that thing is in your arm, or why those things are floating in the sky, or why supply drops fall down.... :)

My advice.... dont get too caught up in it being primitive man vs dino. 👍
Lol it ran away into the water. I only got 10 punches in. It swam away. Rip
Parasaurs are non aggresive... they always run... if you dont have weapons you gotta bola them first.
FYI ... they are the only Teks that will turn and run.

use a bola
Just a few more information.

Tek Dinos are identical to their normal counterparts, their stats and abilities are exactly the same. However, Tek Dinos have a higher level cap...in other words, if you're playing a game where lvl 150 is the max lvl for wild dinos, then tek dinos max lvl is 180 instead.

They can breed as well, but only if it's with another tek dinos. Tek and regulars cannot breed together.

Killing and harvesting tek dino corpse does not yield meat, instead, it gives various of resources...scrap metal, oil and electronics are very useful resources. Elemental Dust is more of an extinction map resource.

They're not exactly common really. It's a low chance for a tek to replace a regular dino, I think it's 5%. But I've seen Tek Quetz quite often, so I think it varies by species.
Okay, thank you all and I don't know what a "bola" is. But I will check it later! I'm new to this game so thanks for the useful information. I keep having to restart because I'm on the easiest place on the island map but still, big carnivorous dinosaurs attack me and kill me at the start so it's kind of hard to progress when I keep getting killed.

Get the raft engram. Build raft and get across to the SE island. It is munchy dino free until you can get established and/or learn enough to survive.
Okay, will do.
the FootPaw is an excellent starting base location on the Island, https://ark.gamepedia.com/Footpaw
however, once you've got your feet under you, there's a spot i really like in the north east, "The Hidden Lake" it's situated between Far's Peak and the Frozen Fang in the northeastern corner of the Island, https://ark.gamepedia.com/Hidden_Lake
