I personally think Valguero due to its even more diverse population of dlc creatures

Very subjective question. Valguero imho it will be the new Ragnarok

It depends if you mean the WC Valguero or the real Valguero

Valg is a tiny map compared to ragnarok. I think rag is better personally

Valguero has depth though. Aberration area. And underwater ocean.

Yeah, I don't think either one is better than the other. Valguero may be smaller just in surface area, but as Kitsune Shiro pointed out, it has depth with the underground areas. It also makes wonderful use of verticality on the surface. As you move toward the map border, you'll find tier after tier of land, effectively increasing surface area and offering very interesting terrain.

I think they're both great maps in their own ways.

Yes the edges of the Valguero map have incredible views. And great places to build.

Which one do you think is better for single player? Which one is better for resources and variety of dinos?

I like Ragnarok better, still, honestly. Valguero feels like it's missed the mark a little bit, trying to include stuff like Aberration is a bit of a weakness imo, i'd rather it have dedicated itself to setting up new dinos like the Deinonychus, i'd rather see a map that does that, rather than try to be a mash-up of multiple maps like people keep whining on the forums for it to be. If they make a map that has everything there's hardly a point to having more than one map except for the sake of appearances and terrain-based early game challenge. Crystal Isles does this well when combined with the JP dinos mod, cause it has lots of different types of biomes to experiment with.

I only play single player. On one hand, I'd say Ragnarok is better for variety, as it contains all the basic biomes and Valguero is missing a few of the critters. That said, Valguero also has the Aberration area and some of those critters, plus the deinonychus. If you want to start throwing in mods though and .ini replacements/adds, you can have just about anything you want on any map.

Ragnarok also has murder snow, which is no joke.

I dunno, honestly, I'd say do a coin toss on which one to start on and transfer to the other one when you're looking for something fresh down the road.

Honestly i don't really like the fact that the lake is infested with JELLYFISH AND SHARKS as opposed to freshwater life.

If you are a new player, start with the Island. Cause once you have been spoiled by modded maps you will not want to go back.

So true.

Well, I mean, it's not really a lake is it? It ties directly into the underground ocean, so it's ocean as well.

Obviously, but it kills the effect of a 'lake', and much of the map's feel as a whole. Who the ♥♥♥♥ looked at this map and didn't think the lake would have stuff like beavers, spinos and stuff in it? Only to find it's jellyfish simulator?

Ark's got a lot to learn.

Uh, there are spinos. Typically in the northern branch. Not tons of them, but enough. Beavers, meh, it's nice having them in their own little lake where they aren't getting completely ganked by predators all the time. Beavers don't belong in deep water anyway, it would mess with the dam spawns. *shrug*
