Basilisk not coming out of ground?

So I'm playing on sp Crystal Isles, and happened to spot a 180 basilisk buried in the ground, not near any wild dinos. Cool, I suspected it had ambushed them all. But when I got off my rock drake and ran up to it to get it aggroed, it stays buried and doesn't even react when I walk over it, other than a small high pitched screech as if it wants to attack me ;. Do they not come out during rain (it was raining in my server) or is it to do with something else? Please help me, as I was really excited to finally find a max level after hours of searching.

Some spots, the Basilisk can get stuck in the terrain and never aggro anyone.
Some work arounds is to eat a Rare Flower next to the spot but normally it means give up on it and move on.

Yeah that didn't work.. Found another 180 glitched of the opposite gender. Guess I'm gonna have to continue looking.

Try something with and area of effect, like a grenade or C4. Don't worry, the Basilisk has plenty of health, it is just going to be really pissed off at you. :p

double thank you years later, cos my tamed basilisk had this glitch and shooting it with my own lightning wyvern was the only thing that made it reappear!!
