Is The Dino AI Going to be Improved in Future Updates?
I was just wondering if the Dino AI will be improved ever?

I don't know, but I wouldn't think so. I personally have no problem with how it is, but I suppose it would be nice if it were improved. Don't count on it though.

IGN gave ark a 7.7 because the AI destroys any sense of danger when the dinos can't get up tall slopes, and they can't go around them.

In the June road map for the coming few months improving the AI, particularly pathing issues and getting stuck on trees, was listed as a high priority along with the possibility of implementing diurnal vs notcurnal behavior sometime by the end of the year. This was June of 2015 so I wouldn't get my hopes up too terribly high.

They got nocturnal behavior done though... more office parties.

They dont seem to endlessly chase you across the map anymore so i guess thats a small improvement, but yeah the AI is kinda ass.

I understand the materials that spawn in are hard to code for Dino’s to avoid and I don’t pretend to understand anything about coding but wouldn’t it not be difficult to at least make their AIs avoid obstacles like the base terrain which remains constant? Maybe to stop Dino’s from walking off cliffs when aggroed? Again I’m just shooting in the dark here but just my two cents

I dunno, i kinda just chalked it up to them having walnut sized brains. Guess it just made the moronic behavior mare palatable.

What about species like utahraptor or troodon which were supposedly much smarter than other dinosaurs. And what about the mammals that we know would've been smart enough to avoid the terrain like wolves, or mammoths, or sabers, or basically any of the mammals.

Yeah, I know.

But hey, even the dodo bird wasn't dumb, just inexperienced.

Ark uses Unity game engine, right? In my experience, most games built on Unity have this trait in common.

The player is supposed to be able to outsmart the dinos, that's kinda the whole gameplay. Physically inferior, but smarter, so we build traps, craft tools and weapons, knockout and tame dinos to do our work for us, etc.
But that's just me trying to justify the bad pathing AI in my brain in order to not fixate on it.

No... Unreal Engine

Hmm, well. A lot less excuse for it then. I've seen lots of games with good pathing AI using Unreal engine.

The AI is the main reason I don't use pack bonus dinos a whole lot. It just gets frustrating to see them get stuck on everything, or happily chasing things right off ledges into lava, etc. I guess with Direwolves it isn't much of a loss, since they cost nothing but raw meat to breed and no saddle, but still.

On the other hand, for hard mode solo games, base jumping triceratops' provide a critical supply of meat and hide early on. Instead of poor AI think of it as failed attempts at spontaneous flight evolution.
