Blueprints
I tried fishing for about an hour with honey bait in the redwood pond catching mostly large sabertooth fish. An entire hour and not a single blueprint, despite rumors persistently saying is the best way to get good blueprints.

Digging a little deeper, people are saying Journeyman+ fishing rods are a requirement. If that's true, where do you get these fishing rods or blueprints for them? Also are there any less boring methods to get blueprints?

There blueprints for fishing rods. I have never been fond of fishing and if you are on an unofficial server it may be the case that fishing is the best way, however traditionally it is not. You can adjust the loot quality in ini and probably the loot table for fishing with a mod.

Best way to get prints is from drops, running caves OR OSD's on extinction.

Which map are you on?

Ragnarok has great drops in the beginning of the Ice Queen worm cave--even more if you venture in and kill the queen (easy if you cryopod a rex and bring shotgun to shoot baby worms).

There's also a chest at the bottom of Viking Bay water where sunken ship is (watch out for sea scorpions--if they scare you, eat some stimulant or stim berries beforehand).

You should also google the coordinates for the red drops in the desert area. Lots of good blueprints in those.

Apparently fishing was nerfed super-hard years ago, and what i found is most of the people saying fishing gets great blueprints are talking about their experience before the big fishing nerf. I play SP, and i bumped up the fishing loot to 150% and fished a TON and never found even one blueprint.(the nerf was already in place before i gave fishing a try) That said, I've never found a fishing pole blueprint either, so I only ever fished with the plain primitive one. I heard rumors like you have of better pole blueprints being out there, but they must be in some awfully specific deep sea or artifact cave crates, because i have never seen one drop. (I also have loot crates set to 150% on loot quality)

I keep meaning to just spawn a high quality pole using admin console commands and experiment with how much of a loot difference it makes, but I keep forgetting to try it. With a plain primitive pole, it is still a good way to get raw prime fish meat when you don't have your base anywhere near an ocean. Along with fishing up a tiny amount of special resources, that seems to be all fishing is good for in my experience.(since I love seaside bases, I really dont need to fish with my current playstyle) I'm still curious through if pole quality really makes much difference after the nerf.

Are there any caves that aren't too hard to solo? I solo'd the cave at south 2 but the green crates didn't really drop anything good.

Every drop I check is usually terrible loot. I got a green sword with 125% damage once and a longneck rifle with 109% but everything else are metal part blueprints or water jars or cloth armor and wood parts.

I play on The Island on a friend's unofficial server.

I'd be curious to hear about your test results. I'm terrified of the sea so I'm not sure how I should go about getting the undersea deep crates. Any advice would be appreciated as a solo adventurer.

Wow, okay. It is all about the pole quality, verified. Just tested it: I used console to generate an ascendant pole and fished with honey for salmon and got multiple blueprints on the salmon that had good multipliers. A single ascendant pole, used carefully, can get you a wealth of various blueprints for armor, weapons, and saddles this way. Blueprint loot ranged from ramshackle up to ascendant, with higher chances of it being more towards the middle on quality. (my fishing loot quality was set to 150% in my advanced game options)

So it is very worth it if you have a high % effectiveness pole. According to the wiki though, it looks like the best chances to get them are from deep sea alpha monsters and deep sea loot crates. Couple of odd things though, poles cant be repaired and fishing pole blueprints are only good to make 3 poles with and then the blueprint is all used up.(though the rest of the blueprints that are not for fishing poles work normally and don't get used up)

Hmm, interesting. with the test complete, I think I am going to go hunting for better poles and pole blueprints.(I didnt keep anything from my test, since i used console for it)
