1. Are you using any mods? If the taming bar is raising from berries it may be that you're using a mod that allows that. The default game does not increase the taming bar from eating berries.

2. What specific berries are you referring to? Narco berries are one potential part of the mechanics to keep the tame asleep of course. Stimberries can be fed to wake them up conversely too. If you're force feeding other berries that would be silly since that hurts taming effectivity if memory serves.
