But don't forget you only can play both together or as the one who runs the non dedicated game.
Just look on the WIKI, make the bat file and you are good. Yes you nwill have the saves.
Oh i see its easy so, so how i must start my game, in SP? And how about the save?
So i can run the server anytime i want, and wen its UP she can join right? And when i need to play "alone" i can join some pve or pvp server or play the campain.
I think the best solution would be running a dedicated server on your machine if it can handle it, She can then join that server anytime she wants, and you can stop the server at any time you want. But you can still play somewhere else.
We did exactly that, because if you make a non dedicated server, she will not be able to walk around alone. Everyone joining will then be bound to be close to your location (200m form the host). That really sucks, especially when the host dies.
Thats why I set up a dedicatd server I just run locally, and since I am too lazy to forward ports on my router we use hamachi to simulate a local network so he can join. But that wouldn't be needed if you play form the same LAN
I used this guide
http://arksurvivalevolved.gamewalkthrough-universe.com/dedicatedservers/windows/Default.aspx
worked fine.
Edit: Nevermind i did see the tutorial link, thx.
hummm i see your point, but to host a local dedicated server ill need more cpu power, and about the config of the server, it can be done ingame or it requires skills?
actually the server you start with the guise will have vanilla settings, you can edit numbers in the ini files to later specific values (like you usually do with the ingame menu for settings)
values and explanaitions are here
https://ark.gamepedia.com/Server_Configuration
But dunno about mods and stuff, haven't used them yet on my server.
running W7, my server and ark does indeed eat like 12,3Gb ram and also utilise quite some CPU, so these definately need to be decent enough.
yes, finding a good unofficial server might be a good choice, officials, indeed suck, but finding a good unofficial and one that lasts (I never had luck with that) is somewhat not so common.
Yeah i think the "one that lasts" part is the main thing here. Saddly i cant play good on officials becouse im on South-America the ping is an issue, so i tied to find a good and stable server here.
I play on my non-dedicated server with my boyfriend.
When you start the game you can select "Host Local". There you can select the Map, Farming Speed etc. (note that there is also an "Advanced" Ribbon there).
Also you can select your mods here.
-> so no ini-config changes are needed
When the settings are as desired click "Start non dedicated server" and insert a servername so you can be found online.
Then your wife has to look for this server (filter for non dedicated helps alot) and you can play together
The only problem is, that your wife will be unable to move too far away from you (you can change this range in the settings too, but you can't switch it off completely)
Cheers
Phini
Edit: you can start the same game as singleplayer and non dedicated (or dedicated at that) all progress will be saved- no matter how you started the server
Amazing, maybe this will be the bast easy way for us to get used to the game tips and tricks as we up togheter. Thx Phini!
Well thz thats ok, ill first check a solo run, to learn some tips, and after some time ill start to play online.
