I missed "center", just saw "play on official". I haven't played center, but on aberration there are hives that don't always contain queens. Not sure if center has the same.
we've had like 4 hives and had more honey than we knew what to do with. Dropped down to just 1 after we had everything we wanted with it. I personally prefer to have it on tap at base than hunt for it.
This was on official, 3100 of my hours were official before moving over to unofficial recently.
In my singleplayer game, I've got two "quiet" hives right at the exit from the portal room. I've got more honey than I can store, before I've even had time to set up crop plots. (The drawback is that I can't build a usable long term fort in the portal room, because there are zero sources of fresh water in there, and no rain.)
did you know! that condensation is a thing in aberration?! I don't know about other maps, but if you set up enough resivoires you can actually get water, no troll a friend did it. An industrial cooker can't function off one, unfortunately, but water is water.
