Best metal farming - The Island

Where would you guys look upon as the best places to farm metal on the Island? Just updated (haven't played since 2016), and I see that the volcano got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up (what is that thing up there anyway??)

Any suggestion? Currently having a couple of ankylo's but no good location to use them. I dont have a quetz yet either.

My base is located by the river, on the south side of the volcano btw. I have a smaller base on the east side of the volcano (between the mountains) where I keep my 2nd ankylo.

Anywhere in the north ( except carno island ).
Maybe get/spawn some whips if you can and enjoy overloading anky to the max.

Avoid gigas and maybe get a Rex or a couple to guard you on your trips.

Redwoods have very good metal nodes too but except gigas its not much safer.

I prefer top right corner of the map,
easy to get to the mountain and ocean nearby so you can have a underwater pen next to base.
Also the mountain got all stuff necessary ( crystal, obsidian, metal ).
Gigas spawn there too though.

The volcano now has the "Ascension Tech Cave" basically its a cave you do after doing the other 3 bosses in alpha beta and gamma difficulties. You run through the gauntlet of the cave(tons of hostile dinos) then activate a teleporter to a space station to then fight the overseer(of those afore mentioned appropriate levels). Killing the overseer for each difficulty unlocked 5 more levels for you character past 100 maxing at 115. Tons of videos on all this on youtube so you can see it in action.


As for metal, the wiki for ark has a resource map you can use to find best metal spots and depends too perhaps on where your base is in regards to convenience. Personally I prefer the 3 different metal locations in the southern areas of the map(including herbivore island). If you also access crystal oil and pearls via caves in those vicinities in the ocean, then that just simply leaves obsidian(volc and other northerly mountains) and polymer (iceburg islands nw) requiring some time/effort to grab.

Also, if you dont really care about ascension but want a map with more well distributed resources, then Ragnarok map may suit you better. Of course if you're playing in single player or on a clustered server, you can shift between all those maps n more.

Where’s ur base? Cause if it’s in the south there is a good mountain right in the center of the southern coast with metal, good if you are in The south.
