Sarco's can destroy Alpha Megalodons..
Normally I avoid these guys since I'm usually about on a Dolphin and they tend to suck in the damage and HP departments..
But this time I ran accross 2 on my way back from the Caverns of Lost Faith.

I figured since I recently found out that Dolphins can really hammer normal Megalodons in a straight but reasonably long fight by using their speed to stay behind them and nip at their tail till they die.. that the Sarco's absurd swim speed might allow me to do the same thing..

Suffice to say yeah.. it does..
You can absolutely destoy Alpha Megalodons and normal ones this way without ever taking damage from them..
Granted you probably will take a little when the backup arrives but considering how easy Sarco's are to tame and you need only be level 35 to ride one this makes them great early and late game mounts for newer and experieced players to use when hunting the Alpha Megalodon.

sarcos are great and underrated

and if you are about to lose, go to land and find that sweet spot where water dinos can't go closer without beaching themself

then you can attack them without taking damage back = free exp/loot

I wouldn't try that personally.. having to stop to regain stamina multiple times due to the Rex's huge health pool.. just seems much more trouble than taking it on with a bunch of your own Rex's or Spinos.
It would be much faster as well.

Definitely underrated.

I think they have one of the fastest default swimming speeds in the game.. they just plow along at sprint like speed with no stamina drain.
They can outswim anything from my experience and have the ability to go on land like you said.

Their stamina regain is near instant too.. and since they only have the one swim speed you can simply keep tailgating your target and stop attacking for a second or two to get it all back.

Their only real weakness in water is their inability to swim up and down directly but that's hardly much of a con with the pros are so good.
Plus you can use weapons while riding too so it's definitely a good mount to have around.

baryonyx is another great hybrid dino to travel the waters with, and their stun attack underwater is really great

Yeah I like the Baryonyx too but it's much slower than a Sarco in water.
I'm not sure if you can increase their swim speed but you can make them pretty quick runners on land ^^

They have another weakness in water, slow attack with bad area of effect, youll have a hard time hitting many sea creatures, especially when dealing with smaller creatures like manta

Personally,i give them only speed and use them for taming mosa or other sea creatures. Its nice to use weapons while riding:)

They don't do as well against manta's.. that's true although they can outswim them effortlessly so that's not a problem.
The AoE isn't a problem when tailgating a Megalodon since they will constantly be trying to bite you as well..
Basically you end up swimming in a circle with them and their tail will always be in your Sarco's bite range.

I assume this tactic also works on Plesi's and Mosa's too.. i'll give it a try sometime and see.

I find it too much of a hassle to try picking up alphas with low lvl sarcos, just bring a baryonyx and attack-whistle to target if you dont have access to its saddle, theres your stunlocked alpha megalodon:)

How often do they do their stun lock attack when the AI controls them?
I dunno if I'd prefer using them over a Sarco.. the stun is good and all but i'm pretty sure an Alpha Megalodon is faster than a Baryonyx in water.. so if I ended up in trouble somehow I'd have a harder time getting away.. with a squad of them I doubt there would be much trouble though.

I just tested the tactic does work for the Mosa too.. Mosa's are slower than Sarco's but still faster than I expected but they turn way to wide to counter a Sarco chomping at their rear so it's an easy kill so long as nothing else ambushes you while your doing it.

Just tamed my first Mosa using a Sarco so pretty damn happy ^^

It doesn't work on Plesi's though.. their AoE is huge so they can hit you while you're tailgating them in a circle.. plus they have that annoying quick rotate to attack thing going on so your Sarco will take damage fighting them.
That said I was still able to take two of them at the same time with my Sarco.. although I did take a lot of damage doing it.
Used the prime meat to tame that Mosa I knocked out before the Plesi's attacked.

Sarcos are great hybrid tanks / transporteurs for solo pvp ^^
Can tank land dinos, can tank sea dinos, can even tank flying dinos,
can hide them like everywhere..

Still especially cavern of lost hope i prefer basilo.. those things imprinted are just incredible .. ;)
And once you pulled that alpha megalodon to the beach they simply outheal alphas dmg ^^

Baryonyx's stun duration is 10 seconds, and it doesnt wait more than a few seconds before unleashing next stun.
Also enough time to run away from alpha if situation looks desperate, just level its speed stat a bit and you'll be fine.

Yeah that cavern is a nightmare.. I read it's full of jellyfish, eels and giant squids.. lots of stuns, dismounts and tames getting grabbed so a Basilo's is more or less necessary for that one since they are immunte to all that crap.
I just tamed one of them today as well.. another first time tame lol
Doing good today ^^

Does leveling speed increase their swim speed?
I thought it only increased their run speed on land..

yes,it increases overall speed
